How do I edit incorrect people in my family tree?
2 -
I think there needs to be some serious consideration to quality control here on FSI. A number of contributors are clearly unhappy that, after they have worked to add accurate information to the tree, often about their ancestors, that information can be distorted by (eg) an incorrect merger - or indeed the incorrect deletion of one of their ancestors. Trying to put mistakes like this right is very cumbersome and time consuming. I think FSI could usefully recognise two basic principles. First, people who have researched their own ancestors are very likely to have put more work into this than someone who does not have that personal interest. It should be possible for (continued)

It should be possible to flag the fact that a particular member hs a strong research connection with a particular person in the tree. And there should then be a principle of courtesy that other members should give that person advance notice of any change they propose to make. So that if the change would be erroneous this can be discussed before the change is made. Secondly, some members will be very expert in certain fields. For example, up to the eatly decades of the last century the great majority of people in Wales spoke only Cymraeg - Welsh. Their actual naming practice was very different from that in England. Someone who speaks and reads Cymraeg and who knows about the available sources in that language is a valuable expert. Why not recognise this by asking such members to monitor proposed changes in the family tree which affect 18th or 19thC Welsh people. Ultimately we are all working together to create an accurate historical account and the risk at the moment is that far too much inaccuracy is being created and published. Alan Griffiths

During the past week, whilst sourcing images, as opposed to records, when trying to attach it to the family tree and clicking the "add to source box", the following happens, despite repeatedly trying get the system to work.
It does not copy it to my source box.
Secondly, when trying to view the image, once inserted in the person's page, the image can then only be viewed via the weblink, with that particular image highlighted in a square box.
How can I overcome these twins problems?

My grandfathers name, and subsequent ancestors, were listed incorrectly. I corrected my grandfathers name (should be William Edward Cox - not William Alva Cox) but his parents, siblings, grandparents, etc are all wrong. I assumed, obviously incorrectly, that when I deleted the incorrect name it would remove and additional names associated with the incorrect person. Is there any way to fix this??

Are you sure you have the right William Cox?

An offensive Memory photo has been attached to my Mother Thelma Leone Bright KWCV-LCZ
by MasonRoberts3
It needs to be removed. Please help

@FluckigerKarenBeaS1 , I think you posted the wrong PID? That number is not for Thelma. Also I think it would be to your benefit if you would post this issue in the Memories category at https://community.familysearch.org/en/categories/memories

Hi Karen, I went to your mother's page and detached the memory you indicated.
You can do this easily yourself, if you find others that need to be detached. Please follow the instructions provided in this Help Center Article:

My Husband, Gerald Leroy Schierlman, has two Family Search Accounts. One account, LFZ4-2XC, shows him as Living. The other account, KWH2-1TW, shows him as deceased on 22 Dec 2022, which is correct. Is there a simple way to delete the account that shows him as Living, or do I need to merge the two accounts in order to correct the duplication? Naturally, I'm looking for a simple solution.😉

@kayeschierlman1, you will need to go to the Living LFZ4-2XC profile and add his DOD in the Vitals Section. Once that is done you will then need to Merge the two PIDs. It is an easy process.

How can I delete a person
0 -
@Urs77, to get a better answer you will have to give more detail. Is the the person Living or Deceased? Did you create this person's profile or did someone else? Is this person's profile of a Real person or a Fictitious person? Why do you want to "Delete" this person's profile? Depending on your answers, you may need to "Remove a Relationship" rather than "Deleting a profile". Posting the PersonID of the profile can help in identifying your issue.

While building my tree, I created a profile for my great-grandfather, Thomas Taylor (1861-1942). In the process, it appears that Familysearch automatically created a spouse profile for Henrietta Scott Forrest (1864 - ?), Thomas's wife. I cannot find a way to label the fact that my grandfather, William Thomas Taylor Ross (1889-1991), was born to my great-grandmother, Ann Ross (1861-1940) --- not Henrietta.
Is the "husband-wife" label a default position that gets imported when building profiles? What is the best way to build/record events like illegitimate births? Thanks for your help.

I need some help please. I am registered for Roots Tech and I am able to see current matches who are registered along with a chart of how we are related. My husband does not have a seperate tree but is included on mine. I am not seeing any of his relationships or connections when I log in to Roots Tech. How do I set up so that his connections also come up in searches?

Please contact FamilySearch Support.

Relatives at RootsTech functions based on the relationship of the account holder. Your husband will need his own account for this feature to work.

Can i add my step children , and will they receive a reference number.
0 -
Yes you can add your step children and yes they will have a PID number. Only you will be able to see their PID if they are Living. After you add them look at the "Family Members" section of your detail page. Click the little pencil icon (Edit) and choose "Step" for the Parent-Child Relationship Type.

I can't find anything about how to help others when I know their access number. Where do I input their number in order to see their tree?
0 -
The Help Others feature is at the top right corner of the browser screen when you are on any Tree or Person page. Since the feature allows you to only help others with Tree functionality, that is where you can find the Help Others button.

I get an email stating that I am related to Pocahontas (or other notable person). I log on and click "see relationship," it takes me to another screen and begins to 'buffer,' but never finishes. Over an hour the last time. I've tried numerous times. What's up???
