Looks like he first filed then later she filed. Wasn’t an amenable divorce.

Wow! This divorce petition tells a lot, and leaves a lot untold. I wonder if there is more of the story in any additional court records?

I found my father's 3rd wife: Thelma Abbott. I knew about her but my mother said they were never married. I think she told me the marriage was annulled. I found a Marriage Certificate for Thelma and JFK dated Jan 15, 1948. They had a son who I knew, Jack Paul Kilby. JFK married my mother Aug 14, 1948. Here's my tree. I have Josephine and Lois Listed along with their mother. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/85855281/family?cfpid=32531346040

oh wow. Did you know he was your brother? Is he still living? Would he maybe know where Lois is?

Yes I knew. He lived only 5 miles away. The first time I saw him was at my father's funeral. He died young at 44. We were friends after we both grew up. According to the marriage certificates, he married my mother 7 months after he married Thelma. Something fishy about those romances. On a side note, going through these records I find so many inconsistencies. For example, in the Newspaper Article where Willie Kilby is brought back from France, it says he died on October 8 but right below the article, in his obituary, it says he died Oct 9. His tombstone says Oct 9. I have no idea what Willie's real name was. I've seen William Clinton Jr., he used Willie Hassan on his military registration. And my father's divorce petition, they used May, Mae, and Mary.

I find a lot Of things like that in my family also, lots of times, someone else was writing the stuff down that someone was telling them, so the spellings will have variations.

I thought I asked this earlier but can't find the question in my feed. Any way, I heard back from OKC and there is no probate for Lois Kilby in Oklahoma County and no probate in Pottawatomie County. We know Lois was adopted between Jul 1916 and Aug 1917. Would it be wise for me to write every County Clerk in Oklahoma (65 total) asking them if there is a Lois Kilby probate during that time period?

Jim, Beyond the time and postage, I don't see a reason to avoid it. My guess is that some counties might not respond, but if they are willing to check the lists without a fee, it would help narrow things down. If you are going to send out a mass request it might be simple to write a form letter and just fill in the address on the envelope. Then again, if you are looking to cut costs, you could start with the counties closest to the known location.

I am going to close the posts about Lois Kilby, not because we aren't interested (because we REALLY are) but because they have grown too large to function well. Jim, please start a new post with a question and we can continue the discussion.
