Your best chance is going to be to request a probate file and not mention the word adoption. Adoption records are restricted. Probate files don't seem to have the same restrictions. It usually takes a court order to get an adoption file.

Have you asked for a photocopy, or digital copy, of this record? Sometimes the clerks miss important clues, or they don't understand a notation on the page.

I think you need to research Voncile! I think your family tree is growing!

WOW. Getting into this chat is not easy. My name is John Rigler. My mom, Josephine (Handy) Rigler was Jim Kilby’s little sister. I appreciate all everyone is doing and will answer any questions that I can
again. Thanks

Once I log out, is there an easy way to get back in?

This is what they sent me.

Welcome John! I am sorry that you had a difficult time getting into the community. We are working to simplify the login process.
You might try:
Log in at community.familysearch.org
Look at the top of the page for My Feed. I think that you should be able to find the group discussion from there.
Always look for Expand Post at the end of each post. It is easy to miss "the rest of the story" if you don't click to expand.
Please share the details that you know about Lois and Josephine Kilby. We have been having an exciting time looking for records for these girls and their families.

Please attach a link! You are doing an excellent job of finding things!

Where is this record from? Can you share a link so we can follow where you are? You are incredible!

Where did this document come from? In the following years Lois must have been adopted as well and would have a case number.

Yes they all have case numbers. Some you can see the file like with my adopted aunt... but this case number lead to the “restricted” page. I haven’t found Lois ... however, if she went to a family in a different county then it likely wouldn’t be with these records. I’ve started searching for you. I’m not sure how much of the records are actually online for which counties. These are all in Oklahoma court and probate records. It can be very time consuming cause usually you just have to start searching from page one. Luckily this one was listed in the index.

its not indexed. You have to search each record. I did search the entire “index” of photos. I didn’t see a Lois. But I did find a “Louise” who was living with a family by last name of Collette in 1930... she’s listed as Kilby and Collete

That’s my father and that must be his second wife (he had 5). The license says he was never married before but that’s not so. Mae was his first and mother of Lois and Josephine. Now we know the names of his first two wives. Bethel was 4th and my mother, Minnie, was #5.

Carolyn and X24mom...thank you so, so much. Lois deserves to be found. I hope and pray we can find out what happened.

@Jim Kilby you’re gonna want to firstly find out where those probate records are stored. Then I would say plan a visit or try to find a volunteer to do it for you. I wouldn’t mention adoption at all. Oklahoma is crazy strict about those records. I’m actually concerned someone might find a way to remove these probate records we have access to.
the Records are on fs and ancestry. They’re alll the same as far as I can tell. Some are indexed but not all. The easiest way to start your search, or what I do, is I first decide which county I need to search, then I look for “probate Index year-year” from there it’s sort of easy, most are sorted in alphabetical order and date ... some have a reverse index on the opposite page so you can see who was involved. For the record on Josephine, I searched Oklahoma County because that’s where the orphanage was located ... however if the adopting family was in another county, there should be a record there, some you can see... they don’t all say restricted. Also, the record number in the Index you’ll have to search the other sections to find the corresponding records. They’re all in numerical order.

You can search birth/death for Oklahoma at ok2explore.org but if her name was changed it will show up with the new name only. And lots of names are misspelled on there

I couldn’t see the transcript (as with everything else sometimes you get to see it online and sometimes you don’t) but the record said she was deceased and it was in re: the estate of Lois Louella Kilby ... if you google that name you can see her obit and a photo of her. 🤷🏻♀️I dont know🤷🏻♀️ Maybe there’ll be a family resemblance? Then again may not her at all

good morning everyone! And Holy cow! We covered a lot last night! I’m getting lost in the chat though lol (yes it’s prob because of my stupid iPhone 😆) ok, so I wanted to ask @Jim Kilby and @John JohnRigler1 if you guys were planning on searching the probate records? If so, please let me know cause I’ll be happy to help. I was thinking if we are to do that, then maybe you guys could let me know which counties you’re thinking about, then we can kinda work together instead all of us searching the same counties. I’m gonna go through pottawamie county and Oklahoma county again just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. This time I’ll try to make sure I post the links for you Guys. I also found a newspaper article about Lydia (James F. Mom?) I can post that if you like. I found mays new marriage after JF, and found the divorce listing ... on that same page is a listing for Anna Kilby and JF for 1919 i think. I guess they divorced as well. Oh and I found their marriage record also. In addition to those things I also found a few things on May before she married your father. 🤷🏻♀️I dont know

We can rule out this Lois Kilby, she has the wrong birth date.

I just heard from the Masons. They did not have the girls in any of the homes they ran. I spoke to Library Archives in Oklahoma today hoping to get some news.
