Request for improvements to the FamilySearch Digital Library
Request for improvements to the FamilySearch Digital Library. This is a replacement for a recent topic with the same title which disappeared into cyber space when I tried to edit it.
Please refer to a previous topic "New format for digitised Books. FamilySearch Digital Library". https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/63631/new-format-for-digitised-books-familysearch-digital-library
In particular to a post I made on September 16, 2019 replying to the request from Phil, FamilySearch employee, for comments on the Digital Library, which listed out the improvements I hoped would be implemented, together with subsequent posts which cross referenced additional aspects. https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/comment/88517/#Comment_88517 and additional posts.
(Note, this previous topic, although previously classified as an Idea on the old platform, has been transferred as a Question on the new Community platform)
Back in September 2019, when Phil, FamilySearch employee, asked for comments on the Digital Library, he indicated that there was a team working on improvements for the Digital Library. I do not recall seeing anything subsequently, or noticing any changes, so optimistically I hope there will be changes for the better in the future, as listed in my previous post of September 16 2019 and additional posts cross referencing additional aspects.
To this list of hoped for improvements, I also want to add a cross reference to another post I made earlier today (10 April 2021)
"FamilySearch Digital Library book reader improvement: Add Translate option for Text"
Is there still a Team working on improvements to the FS Digital Library. Or has it been disbanded?

I have previously commented back in April 2019 that for the FamilySearch Digital Library book reader there needs to be more "Zoom" to increase the size of the text. https://web.archive.org/web/20200717024203/https://getsatisfaction.com/familysearch/topics/bugs-familysearch-digital-library#reply_20103747
This requirement still applies.
Recently I came across a publication, (German language) https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/14875 where there is a copy available both on the Digital Library and also as a digitised microfilm. I was looking at Volume 1. I noted that it is possible to increase the size of the text MORE in the DIGITISED MICROFILM format. If this is possible in the digitised microfilm format, why is it not possible to make this improvement in the Digital Library book reader ?

Reading "The Lost Family" by Libby Copeland, I read that FamilySearch has a large library to be read which is 'only available at the FamilySearch library'. If this is just a matter of policy, that's fine; do what you like... But if you're interested in Digitalizing ALL of your paper/microfiche materials, that can be done and there may be an army of people who can/will help. Please consider how modern material handling and digital image capture and OCR (optical character recognition), will enable much greater access (with search enabled by digital text indexing). Thank you!
