Catalog Online records no longer available at FHL. Only on Microfilm?
It seems these records are only available on microfilm/microfiche at Granite Mountain Record Vault. These all used to available online at a Family History Library, but aren't anymore? Is this permanent? Why did it have to change? I don't see why they would once be available, but no longer are. Hope it changes soon! :(
Example:
FamilySearch Catalog: Riveli di beni e anime, Nicosia (Enna), 1569-1816
(Census records were once available at a FHL, no longer are)

FamilySearch has contracts with the record holders. Those contracts can change over time. FamilySearch does not share details of those contracts with us, the users.
The film reel icon does not mean the records are only on microfilm. For an explanation of the meanings of the icons:

Thanks for answering! Just in your experience, do you have an estimate as to how long it might take for it to return to normal? I hope it doesn't become like some records have been where it is inaccessible for months or even years.

I'm not sure what you mean by "return to normal." If a contract has changed, the current status is the new normal.
You might ask in the Italy Research Group. Someone there may know of another resource for the same record set. Sometimes, a contract with FS changes when the record holder creates another website or contracts with one of the for-pay genealogy providers.
