    Thank you @Chai for bringing that Knowledge Article (KA) to everyone's attention. I am also including an official message from FamilySearch:

    "Thank you to all who have posted in this community board. Your comments are integral in troubleshooting this problem.

    Error 15 is the result of a new cyber security system recently integrated into FamilySearch. It has been added to our site to protect data in Family Tree, historical records, and memories that online attackers target. It is very important to us to protect our users and the family history data on our site. We also need to honor the contractual agreements we make with our partners. This new security system provides important protection that helps with all of those goals.

    While it has been successful in shielding the site from those attacks, the security system is not intended to block honest users from interacting with our site. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

    Here are the top three solutions that we find work for most of our users who experience Error 15:

    1. Turn off or adjust the settings of any add-ons or extensions that you have installed in your browser. These browser add-ons appear to be the most common reason for users receiving this error. We can’t provide a list of all problematic add-ons simply because of how many exist. Try running FamilySearch with your browser in incognito mode. If you do not see an error while in incognito mode, then you can be fairly certain that a browser add-on is the source of the problem.
    2. Disable your VPN while you use FamilySearch.
    3. Try using FamilySearch on a different browser.

    If the above does not work, one of the following solutions may help.

    • Fix the date and time on your device.
    • Clear cache and cookies.
    • Reset your browser to its default configuration.
    • Make sure your device and operating system are fully updated.

    We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

    Sincerely,

    The FamilySearch Team"

    We will be closing this thread soon so that we can identify any new cases that might be coming up. We appreciate your continued patience and support.

    (it works fine on chrome. Access denied on FTM 2017) How to incognito in FTM?

    1. Disable your VPN while you use FamilySearch. (we dont use a VPN)
    2. Try using FamilySearch on a different browser. (not an issue with browser, issue is INSIDE FTM 2017) see photo https://imgur.com/a/ft3Zh9E

    If the above does not work, one of the following solutions may help.

    • Fix the date and time on your device.  (date and time is correct)
    • Clear cache and cookies.  (done on both the pc and this website)
    • Reset your browser to its default configuration.  (I did this, but no affect on the program)
    • Make sure your device and operating system are fully updated.  100% updated

    Would love a fix, over a month now with the issue

    It really should not be incumbent upon the user to disable their browser add-ons, extensions, etc., in order to reach this site. For the record, I have only a few add-ons installed, one being an ad-blocker. Pausing the ad-blocker for FamilySearch does not help. I will absolutely not be removing the ad-blocker for the sake of accessing this site. The fact that any of this is being requested of users is indication in itself that Imperva is being implemented incorrectly, or perhaps just isn't going to work.

    I've just started getting it too, and I haven't changed any settings on my Linux workstation since last time I logged into FamilySearch, so clearly someone's been playing with the settings and have messed it up.

    Server stats might show LOTS of people having the same problem.

    Expecting the users to make changes to their browser just because one of your third party providers can't get their act together is a bit on the nose.

    Well, this is a new one to me. I tried to do a record search, something I've done thousands and thousands of times and this is what I got. I can't do a screen shot, I can't copy and paste but here is what I see:

    Access Denied

    Error 15

    www.family search.org

    2023-04014 17:37:32 UTC

    What happened?

    This request was blocked by our security service

    It gives my IP address and a Proxy IP, both of which I'm not including here. There's also an Incident ID, which I meant to copy but did not and now I can't get back there.

    What can I do to try to resolve?

    There are several reasons this error may have occurred. The following may resolve the issue:

    Open your web browser in Incognito/Private mode or disable all extensions if you have Incognito mode set to continue running extensions (I haven't a clue what this is and I didn't make any changes)

    Use a mainstream browner such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari (I use Firefox)

    Disable VPN if you are using one. (I've made no changes)

    Powered by Nomadix

    ~~~~~
    Refreshing the screen made no difference but going back and starting fresh (Search Records) got me to the search page, as it should have. What happened here?
    The error comes up on my Debian workstation, but not on my Debian laptop. Both running Firefox.
    I could get the home page to show up by deleting all my familysearch.org cookies, but hitting the login button got the error 15 again. On this same workstation, I can sign in community.familysearch.org without any problems.
    "Powered by Imperva" needs to be changed to "Hobbled by Imperva".
    This error is back and has been back for at least a week. I'm running chrome Version 113.0.5672.92 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Ubuntu. Running in Incognito is a valid, yet inconvenient workaround, however
    I've FINALLY found out what the problem is here. It's due to something cached in Firefox that is upsetting Imperva.
    Fortunately there is a fix. First make sure you copy your username and password as it will be removed from Firefox's password database during the fix. Then call up the history window, find ANY page from familysearch.org, then right click and select "Forget about this site".
    When you select this, Firefox will go through every one of the files it has stored on your computer and removed all items pertaining to familysearch.org. This could take some time and involves a lot of CPU so be patient. When it has finished you will see the page you selected disappear from the history list.
    Once it's done, you should be able to revisit familysearch.org and log in as per before.
    You're welcome. :^)
    I would absolutely visit this helpful link,
    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/solutions-to-error-15
    except that I get Error 15 when I try.
    I also get it as soon as I log into FS (including in incognito). Fully clearing cache and forgetting the site didn't help. This is on a chromium based mobile browser.
    Just started getting this on Brave for mobile. I've made no changes to my browser, could use the site just fine yesterday. I can't even access the help pages on my tablet anymore. I'm using Brave on my laptop so I fear I'll have the issue here, too.
    Cleared my cache & cookies. Tried incognito. Disabled my ad blocker; I have no other add-ons. Not using a VPN.
    I use this site constantly! I joined to view everything. What is left for me to fix this?
    (EDIT, I've logged in successfully in Chrome for mobile, but Brave is my default browser--and based on Chrome. I'd still really love for this to be fixed. Who knows how long Chrome will work?)
    (EDIT--again cleared cookies, cleared all data related to FamilySearch, cleared cache of browser, scanned tablet, did tablet maintenance, rebooted. Went to the homepage. It loaded...but the moment I tried to log in, again blocked. Clicking back to the homepage, it's blocked again too. Nothing works. I can't access the FamilySearch cookies page to see if it makes any difference, though I doubt it.)
    EDIT, something I noticed, the ancestors.familysearch.org pages (at least one) seem to work, with me logged out. But the moment I try to log in, or navigate elsewhere or go to the details view of the page, I'm blocked. Does that help at all?
    @Rachel9850 You problem seems identical to mine, down to the timing. Yesterday was fine and today we are locked out. The timing of this issue seems to indicate that security was recently tweaked.
    I'm currently on Kiwi (mobile,chromium) 103. Over three years, this is the 4th browser I've switched to, in response to issues I've had with Family Search (Firefox-> Brave-> Ice Raven-> Kiwi).
    I genuinely get that FS can be a target for malicious actors and how IRL pressures mandate increasing security.
    That said, we would really benefit from mod response that our issue has been passed along for investigation.
    I have my device using Ubuntu with Firefox as a browser. Nothing I do except changing to Brave browser enables access to Familysearch. Either this site is using wrong implementation or there is a bug in the security software. Sadly, I must move away to other sites. Familysearch is now unusable.
    Solutions to Error 15
    Article Id: 22106 March 16, 2023
    Error 15 Overview
    Error 15 is the result of a new cyber security system integrated into FamilySearch. It has been added to our site to protect data in Family Tree, historical records, and memories from online attackers. It is very important to us to protect our users and the family history data on our site. We also need to honor the contractual agreements we make with our collaborating third-party genealogy companies. This new security system provides important protection that achieves these goals.
    While it has been successful in shielding the site from attacks, the security system may block honest users from interacting with our site. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.
    Solutions
    Here are the top 3 solutions that we find work for most of our users who experience Error 15:
    • Turn off or adjust the settings of any add-ons or extensions that you have installed in your browser (this is the most common issue). We can't provide a list of problematic add-ons, since there are many. TO TEST: Try running FamilySearch with your browser in Incognito or Private mode. If you do not see an error while in Incognito or Private mode, then you can be fairly certain that a browser add-on is the problem.
    • Disable your VPN while you use FamilySearch.
    • Try using FamilySearch on a different browser.
    If the above does not work, one of the following solutions may help:
    • Fix the date and time on your device.
    • Clear cache and cookies.
    • Reset your browser to its default configuration. Note: This will disable and potentially remove any extensions you may have installed.
    • Make sure your device and operating system are fully updated.
