Step Father & View My Relationship
I'm having an issue with my mother (deceased) whose record lists both a father and a step-father as parents. Even though the father is selected as primary, "View My Relationship," and tools like "Famous Relatives," are showing false relationships through the step-father.
How can I make Family Search ignore the step-father for purposes of relationship finding? Deleting the link isn't an option as my living aunt keeps adding it back in.

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

In the "Parent-Child" Relationship, for your Mother, for her Father(s) [x2] ...
Question: Is, the "Type", for one, set; as, "Biological"; and, the "Type", for the other,. set; as, "Step"?
IF, not; THEN, setting the CORRECT "Type", of "Parent-Child" Relationship, for the respective Fathers, may help.
Just a thought.
I hope, that this certainly may help/assist, somewhat.

I tried adding a relationship type for the biological father and, unfortunately, it didn't change the behavior of viewing a relationship.

The following is an extract from the above Knowledge Answer
- Sources help users trust the information they see. To see attached sources for a tree record, go to the ancestor’s Person page. Near the top of the screen, click Sources.
- A reason statement explains a change or contribution to an ancestor’s record. Add reason statements wherever you add information.
- The life sketch provides a quick summary of an ancestor's life. A life sketch can help others know if the person is their ancestor. Find the life sketch just above the Vitals section of a person page.
- From a person page, click Collaborate and find the discussion tool. Start a conversation about a shared ancestor. Everyone who visits the ancestor's page can see the conversation.
- From Collaborate, click Notes. Use it to record insights, conclusions, or questions that do not seem to fit anywhere else.
Thank you for your contributions to FamilySearch and trust you can come to a suitable solution with your Aunt.
Kind Regards
Peter A Basford.

Firstly ...
I am not saying, that this will work ...
But ...
That Said ...
I consider; and, humbly suggest, that such a "Change", may NOT immediately CORRECT the "Relationship" ...
The "System", may need time, to for the whole thing, to "Synchronise" ...
Secondly ...
IF, after a little time (ie. sufficient to "Synchronise"), that such DOES NOT make any difference; THEN, ...
And, you have not already tried ...
An "Oldie"; but, often, STILL a "Goodie" ...
[ That, more often than not, seems to work ... ]
Try "Clearing" the, "Cookies"; and, "Cache", of your "Browser" (and, may be even, the "Browsing History") ...
Here are some "Knowledge Articles", in 'FamilySearch":
How do I delete cookies from FamilySearch?
https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-delete-cookies-from-familysearch
How do I delete all of the cookies and temporary files stored by my internet browser?
How do I set my cookie preferences?

Finally ...
There CAN be MORE than one "Relationship", to any individual/person, including one's immediate Family.
Usually, the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', takes the EASIEST; and, most direct route ...
But ...
That Said ...
Such, is NOT always; as, one would expect ...
And, here, I stand corrected, if an am wrong ...
I believe, that "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', may 'look' through one's DIRECT Lines; BUT, not always; and, may even "Jump" to, one's "Spouse's", side.
When I check, the "Relationship", in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', to my Wife, I get:
No Relationship Found
You have no direct relationship to this person in Family Tree, or your common ancestor is beyond 15 generations.
And ...
Yet, my Wife and I, DO "Share" some "Common Ancestors" (in fact, quite a few) ...
[ ie. Including, the likes of, "Brigham YOUNG", one of the Presidents of the Church ... ]
[ But, that said, often, it MORE than just x15 Generations back; where, it all starts ... ]
Now ...
That Said ...
"Relationships" in one's "Ancestral" Lines are both, COMPLEX; and, COMPLICATED ...
[ And, often, one MUST go back, MUCH Further, than just x15 Generations ... ]
NO "System", will give one, ALL the various "Relationships", that may exist, between, oneself; and, another.
And, various "System", WILL provide, DIFFERENT answers ...
[ Some will be the SAME; but, others will be DIFFERENT ... ]
NONE are PERFECT ...
Life is just TOO complicated ...
Such is Life ...
I know, that this certainly may not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective.
Brett
ps: IF, you have not; THEN, I humbly suggest you try (BYU) "RealtiveFinder", just to 'see' what that provides.

So, this to everyone. I have duplicated @JoelMurphy1977 description.
Below is a screen shot of all the relationships correctly identified. I call your attention to the existence of a non-related child, Doris Berry, living with David Watson and his second wife. I also call your attention to the preferred couple checked, because Clarence Watson (person in direct lineage) is the son of first wife, not second.
Now, I set the guardian relationship in 2020, but on the 26th Jan 2022 I merged 2 Doris Berrys, and now it shows guardianship established on the 26th Jan 2022, which is technically not correct. That kind of confuses me, and I wanted to throw that out there for the experts to see.
When I do a find relationship with Doris Berry, below is what I see. Don't worry, I have cropped this to ONLY those people visible in the above screen shot. The pertinent thing here is it should say Doris is not related, but it says Doris is my husband's grand aunt.
If it takes time to process my work on the 26th in order to show no relationship, how long do you think it will take?

"By design, the relationship chart shows only the shortest path to the relative."
It appears the View My Relationship feature does not care if the parents are biological, adopted or guardian. It just finds the closest path to the person you are searching.
Your husband is related to the guardian father, David Foster Watson, so this is how it connected Doris L Berry to you.
We know this information is not what you wanted to hear. View My Relationship can bring up strange and sometimes unwanted results.

I was (am) having the same issue with biological and step-father of my own mother.
I marked on mom's profile the preferred parent relations, but on her parents' profiles I did not. Going to the preferred parentage and ticking that Preferred selection may help. Im waiting now for the site to catch up to my own correction.
Just throwing out a suggestion in hopes that this corrects that issue.

Yes. I prefer to use the FamilySearch partners RelativeFinder.org and Puzzilla.org. They don't entirely work around the tree rendering mistakes this logic generates on Family Tree, but in combination they come pretty close.
