Family History Center in Costa Rica (Liberia LDS Church) - can't see locked images
Hello! I visited the FHC at the LDS church in Liberia, Costa Rica, and I was unable to see images that are locked from viewing from my home computer (I live a 2-hour drive from Liberia). The images at the FHC still had the camera-key icon. The elders tried to help but they didn't know what to do either. Is there a solution? Is there someone they should contact who can help resolve it? Thanks so much.

Hello Becky, .. if you say you have movies blocked online , it is because they are Resricted Records that can only be seem in the Family History Center (FHC) .. Now, if at the FHC, movies or restricted records are not seen.. It is because they are not yet enabled in that Center.
If you need to access any type of the collection during this time, you can make an appointment with the Family History Library of Salt Lake city, they are the only ones who will continue to have access to these collections.
We send you the link, to access that site and thus request a virtual appointment :

We hope we have helped you.

I am not connected with FamilySearch.
There are some previous topics which deal with the computer updates which need to be performed before there is access to restricted records. "Family History Center Portals" 14 September 2021.

Which film were you trying to view? What message came up when you clicked on the camera-key icon?
Not all locked records have the same access restrictions. There are some locked records that cannot be viewed by non-Latter Day Saints in any circumstances.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. The records I tried to view at the FHC are deeds and probate for various counties and states in the USA. The message says:
"To view these images do one of the following:
- Access the site at a family history center.
- Access the site at a FamilySearch affiliate library."
I'll try to find the right contact at the FHC to let him know about installing the extension that's needed to view the locked images.

I tried calling this number from my Costa Rica phone number, but it doesn't work. I tried it a few different ways and it never goes through - only get error recordings. So I'll use other ways to reach out to them. Thanks!

The message you see rules out the possibility that only members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are permitted to see the records.
Which means there must have a technical issue with the FHC computers. Hopefully the extension will fix this.
Have you tried finding out if there are Affiliate Libraries closer to your house than the FHC? Here's a map of FHCs and Affiliate Libraries: https://www.familysearch.org/fhcenters/locations/ You have to zoom in to see all the icons.

There are no affiliate libraries in Costa Rica, only FHCs. I may try one of the others. Liberia is the closest, but it's still a 2 hour drive from my home. But us genealogists will move heaven and earth to find records, right?

Perhaps there may be a suitable library near you, a public or university library, archive, museum, or genealogical society, which would agree to become a FamilySearch Affiliate Library
