How do you verfy parents when the only source is the childs marriage license
My 3 time great grandfather L68B-851, John Claiborn Jones is shown as a child of John Jones Jr and Lucy Binns Cargill. He is shown with a birth date of 10-17-1786. There is no source document and the couple shown above as parents were married in June 1787. The only John C in there wills is John Cargill Jones also called John C. My grandfather John Claiborn is in 0 documents in this family unless you have a source document not disclosed. Looks like the wrong line and the parents you show should be removed. I am not interested in appropriating someone else's lines. Please enlighten me. Thank you Bob Long

If you look through the Change Log for John Claiborn Jones (Look in the right hand column for Changes then click on Show All after the three most recent changes) you can see that he was first added to Family Tree on Feb. 2, 2014. Two people worked on his record that year but never added parents.
On November 9, 2017 a ThomasRobinson58 added him to parents. If you click on that user name, you will see the link for messaging that user. I would do that and ask how he decided those were the correct parents. He has not done any other work on John Claiborn Jones. If he answers you, he may not have a reason or sources. Or he may never answer. If either of those are the case, feel free to remove John Clairborn Jones from those parents.
If he does have convincing sources, then you will know why those parents are there. In any case ThomasRobinson58 is the only one who can explain his reasoning.
Family Tree is an open-edit, wiki-style, universal tree. You have just as much right to correct entries here as anyone else, so if ThomasRobinson58 cannot support his conclusion on these parents, do fix this.
You will see in the Change Log that nine people have been working on this page. You many want to contact all of them and see if any of them have any evidence for who his parents are.
