Bold, underline, etc., does not show up
I commented on a post and bolded and underlined a couple of words (I tried by clicking on the options on screen as well as using keyboard shortcuts). However, it didn't actually bold or underline the text. After posting the comment, I clicked "edit" and selected the words, and they are marked as bold but are not actually bold.

FYI
The "Bolding" of "Text", NOT sticking, after being applied was also reported yesterday (ie. 18 March).
The post being
Under ... "Home" › "Ideas" › "Other"
Can't use bold text when adding comments or ideas
I have ALSO raised the matter (and, the above post) in the 'Group' being "Community Group Leaders" in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I will also add this 'Post' of yours, to the aforementioned.
Question: HOW can we "Underline", I have NOT 'seen' this as an available option, in this NEW Platform?
As far as I was aware there was NOT option to "Underline" text in this NEW Platform.
The NORMAL, pressing of the "Ctrl" and "B" together works for the "Bolding"; but, that said, DOES NOT work for "Underlining".
I hope this helps.

Italic works but not Bold. Bit poor....

Italics do work , on a Macbook via CMD (a) => first typ your sentence and leave the cursor for the next word; enter cmd (A), and the editor will appear giving a few options for Italics or Bold , some other
The chain brakes if i try to go to "Bold," next, as the editing tool only recognises the whole text, not the intended part.

Test; To bold or not to bold, the river "Flawless" is filled with
To bold or not to bold
This is only a test;
balder than the rest
This is only a test
There where no Boulders on this barren ground,
There are no Boulders on this barren ground

I also made an attempt to to use an external editor, like say Word for Windows, or TXT maker for Mac
and after typing an article there, editing it , using all tools on board , then cut/copy /paste it to this
Chatbox,....
Does not work, although this worked well in the old user interface of Fam.search.

There is no underline capability and you are correct the bold capability while present does not work.
It was probably a good idea to put of the launch until after RootsTech, otherwise the storm of discontent over this new Community would probably have affected it.

@JC Bingham
Things will work out on the long run, and it is not so much a discontent ,but i have to admit that it is annoying.

yes - it will surely eventually work itself out in the long run . . . ( but here we are how many weeks and months later - and its still this way . . .???
Why is such a basic feature as underlying not there "out of the box"???
and why is there a strike through option - but no underline
Random - unexplainable - things like this - that should just work "out of the box" - just really make for a lot of doubt as to why this vendor was even chosen for the Communtiy software - when such basic things dont even work. . . .

@Dennis J Yancey, underlining was a way to work around the lack of italics on typewriters. (Bold you could fake by overtyping a few times.) Online, underlining no longer indicates emphasis; instead, it indicates a link. Underlined text that isn't a link is confusing and should be avoided.

@Julia Szent-Györgyi Yes, the convention is that underlining indicates a link, but that is just a convention not a rule. Also in the previous version of this Community the links were not automatically underlined by the supporting software, so the folks in the community got in the habit of underlining them. The other convention that distinguishes Links is that the color of the text is generally changed to blue, evident with your name at the start of this message Also note the absence of an underline until you roll a mouse pointer over it.
Additionally, bold is now working, at least it is when I create a message.

@Adrien Kintziger Discontent, annoyance, it is all a matter of degree, an annoyance is just a discontent that has not festered long enough or annoyed frequently enough.

People should have access to basic formatting functionality - and use what they feel best
I do agree that underlining can be confused with hyperlinks
but why in the world - would we systematically mandate that based on not even allowing it . . . .
we have strike through of all things (which I cant even think of a use for here ) and we dont allow underlining . . .
its just so many little things like this - that just make the system look very unprofessional and flaky
when even basic functionality is haphazard

and we dont need a history lesson on typewriters
If virtually every word processor in the world out there currently allows for underlining
why would we not allow the most basic of formatting functions here also??

It's helpful to have the ability to strike through text when we're transcribing any crossed-out text from a record. But the bold, underline, and italic options are ones we're so used to employing that we really do need them functional; I'm glad that we can now bold and italicize, at least! I missed being able to emphasize names, dates, etc., by bolding them.

agreed - but we are talking about here in the community - not on some memories or source posting.
in all my work here in community I have not seen a single entry in a community post - with strike - through . . .Im not saying take strike through away
just saying that it makes NO sense to include that - but not include underline or bold.
no problem with keeping strike through - but please include underline
and really all I'm really saying is that there are way too many little things like this - in this community that seem totally haphazard, random, inconsistent, illogical, ineffificent - that it really gives bad impression - and is not representatve of a world class system like FS really should be - but all so often falls short - for reasons that all so often seem to be lack of needed budgeted resources (the right people and the right tools)..
truth is - I could live without underline - my real point is not the underline
MY point is why do we have so many things that make us doubt that a reliable and respectable community software vendor was really chosen - and how much frustration and angst is being generated on both the user side and the missionary side - due to so many things that should never have been this way from the start . .

Well said Dennis, I heartily agree.
Personally I find the lack of the capability to subscribe to email notifications of new posts in the groups that I am a member of to be very inconvenient. In the old Sales Force based community I relied that feature to know when there was activity in the groups. I find that I am less active in this community because it does not have that feature and I am not accustomed to popping in to check. I prefer the interrupt driven approach over the the current approach. At least it has the capability to notify via email in some cases. I do not understand why that capability cannot be generalized.
