Donald H. Bradford said: Why doesn't FamilySearch drop the United Kingdom as a standard place for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland? It kind of defeats the purpose of the Birth Country feature of the Fan Chart. I guess I am just glad FamilySearch doesn't yet recognize the European Union. Boy what a mess when they do.

Anything within England, Wales, and Scotland in 1801 and after, I use the United Kingdom as the country. Before that, I use England, Wales, and Scotland (respectively) as the countries. Yes, Great Britain and the different names for the UK are not used on FamilySearch as standard place names (I assume for simplicity), but leaving out the UK totally would not be accurate imo.0
