We all share an active interest in using the resources of this site and as users, we have various levels of knowledge and experience and do our best to help each other with concerns, issues, and/or questions.
Before you get too excited, we need to know where you found your birth information.
-- First, Was it part of a historical collection? If so, which collection was it?
Many public birth records can be found for those jurisdictions that allow them. For instance, I found the birth records for my living niece and nephews, who were born in Texas. That presents a problem.
You can find out the date range covered by most historical collections by looking at the citation associated with the record in the collection.
-- Or was it in the massive tree that makes up FamilySearch, FamilyTree?
If that is the case, then make sure you did not enter the information yourself. All living persons are stored in the "private space" of the user who entered the information. No one else can see the record.
To connect to the massive tree, you have to enter your information, but we users often advise to only enter the name and parents and/or grandparents necessary to connect to the deceased persons in the tree. You do not need to enter any other information and, as far as that goes, can even use only your first name and enter that as "Me."
The above information may or may not provide the information you seek, but when it comes to public records, such as the Texas birth records that I mentioned, that is a function of the organization that has control over the original records (in this case, the state of Texas).0 -
Paul said: Ostensibly, there does appear to be some inconsistency with FamilySearch's policy regarding privacy for living persons. However, your birth details are public and probably available to view on a number of websites.
The privacy afforded to you, and all other living persons, is really just confined to the FamilySearch Family Tree program. This prevents the possibility of any information about you being displayed - including PRIVATE details. This applies to the records of all persons marked as "Living".
However, I am a United Kingdom citizen / resident and not a FamilySearch employee, so cannot confirm if you have any specific rights regarding this matter.0 -

However, there is a provision to remove information if you request appropriately. see ---https://www.familysearch.org/help/sal...0

A van Helsdingen said: Many governments release some details of birth records. For example in the UK the names, quarters of birth and mother's maiden name of many living people is publically available online.
If you don't like these policies, you will need to contact your representatives in the local legislature and ask them to help repeal it, or initiate a court case (if appropriate) alleging improper violations of privacy.0 -
David Newton said: So is my birth registration index entry. It's been online for many, many years at Ancestry and latterly this site as well. I've even attached the source to my own profile in my private area.
My response to this is: and? I've never suffered identity theft (which is what people typically are paranoid about) and it's not a vector for identity theft that I'm worried about. Stop worrying about non-issues and get some prroper perspective on what information is a matter of public record and what information really private.0
