Carol Hutchinson said: merging, and adding marriage, the marriage does NOT transfer to the merged record [and yes I clicked on the add marriage record, it goes to the right hand record before you do the final merge, but when you finish the merge, the marriage information has disappeared.]

And I want the old PID as the remaining ID, so don't just tell me to switch and merge the other, older, more important ID into the newer ID, I won't do it. there are so many other glitches with the program, go back a month and start over.

Paul said: I just confirmed that the marriage details did not move over to the surviving IDs (of the couple) when I made the merges for a couple in one of "my" branches.

Tom Huber said: It is extremely important to document all areas of concern in as much detail as possible.

For a brief period of time, the new process was backed out, some major issues were addressed, and the new process was put back in place.

The marriage information needs to transfer with the couple and children that are automatically moved over to the surviving record.

Paul said: I did not find this problem when merging IDs today. However, there is an inconsistency in that I had to manually move the marriage event detail from left to right, but christening detail moves across automatically, and you have to click on "Undo" if you did not want it moved across.

Perhaps the explanation relates to the christening just applying to an individual, but the marriage detail involving a couple and the merging of the two husbands and two wives.

It is sometimes difficult to recall the whole process once it has been completed. I have even restored a merged person in order to repeat the process, but this becomes a little less straightforward if you have already merged IDs for both the husband and wife.

Paul said: The screenshots illustrate the points mentioned above:

Oh, yes - I get it now! Detail (christening, in this case) is moved across if the right side of the screen has nothing there, but if there is existing detail (say in the marriage example) the detail on the right needs to be replaced.

There might have been a bug earlier, otherwise the new process just needs getting used to.

Paul said: Here's another example that I was ready to report as a bug. I thought the marriage I'd wanted to be carried across had mysteriously disappeared, but it was just lack of concentration on my part. I undid the merge and could then see clearly that I had not chosen the ("Replace") option to replace the marriage shown in the upper record with the one shown below.

You really do need to be more careful now, but I'm happy to accept this is how it should be. The more drawn-out process will be well worth the extra attention and time required if it makes users think a little more when undertaking merges - thus avoiding many of the errors that took place under the previous version.
