Standardized places

Larry Dean Andrew said: When recording places, I can type in, for example, the country Sweden and save it. The program then tells me the place is not standardized. I have to edit the field, select "Sweden" from the standardized drop down fields and save again for the program to recognize that it is in fact a standardized place. It would be nice to have the program do the checking and accept it as a standardized place without duplicating the effort.

The programme ALREADY does do what you consider would be nice.
The problem/issue is that you "Saved" too quickly; before, you gave the programme long enough to work.
In other words, you were a little to quick/eager.
A few moments longer; and, the 'Place' name database would have presented "Sweden" for you to select as a "Standard".
Slow down ever so slightly; and, you will see that the programme does what it is supposed to do.
Just a thought.

Heidi Kuosmanen said: With countries you might suppose that when you write Sweden, program would automaticly standardize your place without the need to select separately the standard for Sweden. Because every county has different name.
But when you type some other place name with more exact location, there can be several places with the same name even in different locations in the world. The program can not know what place you are meaning if you do not type the whole place name and even then you need to select which one is correct in order to get the right standard.
For example if you just type Kumla Sweden. You will get 28 different standardized place names. There are three Kumla, Sweden (parishes)
Kumla, Östergötland, Sweden
Kumla, Örebro, Sweden
Kumla, Västmanland, Sweden
And 25 other places, municipality/villages/farms in Sweden with the name Kumla.0
