Need to change Memories Tag Actions

This is another example of why the Memories tagging feature needs to be revised to have the capability to hide the Tag the person prompt:
This was uploaded as a document and has no people in it. I firmly believe that the Tag people concept was created to allow us to see all of the photos of the person that is tagged. However, it should not be used nor should we be forced to tag an image that has no people in it just to make the tag prompt go away so you can see the full image without the inappropriate tag prompt.
It would be very simple to add a button to the tag prompt titled 'Hide This Prompt' and when you click it the prompt would go away.
I fail to see why this excellent tagging concept is being applied to pictures of documents, headstones, houses, medals, etc. when they have NO people in them.
Hopefully someone will fix this error and allow those of us that use it to eliminate the offending Tag PEOPLE prompt.

Although yes, it would be nice to just tag him to the document and then someone will have to read it all to see where it mentions him since it could mention him multiple times. So I do see where it would be applicable to hid the tag for somewhere on the document and just tag to the document.0

Ray Batig said: As I understand it the tag people concept was set up so if you and others tagged a person you could see all the tags which included that person, and thus see all the pictures of that person. Once again tagging is not for things other than people so why do we put up with a system that works wonderfully for tagging people and fails miserably for documents and other objects that relatives upload to a person's memories?
Suggesting that I tag a name is a workaround that defeats the original purpose of tagging.
I still believe that the software needs to be revised so that it can function for its original purpose.0 -

If you upload a document and do not tag it to any person the only place it would be seen is in you gallery. What good does that do. You now have a document - presumably of some historical or genealogical value - that only you have access to and when you are gone it is not related to any other individual and even thought it is in you gallery it is not linked to you so no one else could see it. The tags associated with the document are the connection to others in the tree. Without tags documents are useless0

Tom Huber said: The problem with this situation is that it appears that the document was added from a person’s profile rather than to the user’s gallery and then tagged.
I came across this a while back and changed how I added a memory of this nature. It made tagging a lot easier.0 -
Tom Huber said: By the way, and as I mentioned, I ran into your issue myself. I realized that I had loaded the memory from the person's profile (a natural action, in my opinion) and that set up the tagging differently than when the memory was loaded through my gallery. Tagging is not as efficient as I have to sometimes search for the person in the tree after tagging them, but it avoids the problem you've discovered.
It has been a while since I've uploaded a memory through a person's profile, so I don't know if the earlier issues have been resolved and you've run into some new problem, or if this is the same problem that existed a year or so ago.0 -
Ray Batig said: Hi Tom, I tried uploading to the gallery and then link it to the person. Same thing happens as the Tag the person prompt shows up.
I fully agree that it is natural to add memories directly to the primary person' s profile.
I guess there are only a few of us who upload memories of things associated with one or several people and have to endure that the prompt to tag people is blatantly running through the center of the photo. Even when you magnify the photo to better see it.0 -
gasmodels said: it is because you uploaded to the persons memories and the system creates a tag to that person. The red reminder is to let you know it may need to be tagged to other people. The system generated tag is only supposed to be a temporary. If you click the down arrow next to the individuals name you will see two options (1) Edit tag and (2) delete tag. Clicking on Edit tag will show you the system generated tag which is almost the whole document or photo. You can adjust the tag by clicking on the green dot at the lower left to change the size and then you can move the smaller tag around the item. You can also delete the tag and then create a new tag. The red flag is just a reminder that there is a system generated tag and you need to edit to make it disappear. Hope that helps you to understand what is going on.
As an aside if you choose to delete the tag the memory will not appear on the person page you uploaded it to but instead will only appear in your Gallery unless you create a new tag to the intended individuals.0
