Display Bug- Record Hints pane after attaching a record

David Roderick McLean said: After attaching a first record hint under the Research Help page, when you click on the second hint, the arrow still points to the first hint
This image shows what happens:
Notice that the pointer is pointing to a "United States Social Security Death Index" yet the information in the pane refers to a "Washington Death Index" (the second hint)
It is repeatable about 90% of the time. Using Chrome.
Method to see bug:
1. Find a PID with at least two research help suggestions. (example LD6C-6CS)
2. Attach the first record hint (left click on name hyperlink in the record to be attached, then left click on the Blue Attach button)
3. Attach the record
4. Hit the name (or icon) of the second hint.
5. The popup window with the arrow pointing at the record hint will refresh with the new record hint; but the pop up window will still be pointing to the already attached hint.
Solution:
1. Select the third hint; and then go back to the second hint.
After doing this process, the pop up points to the correct hint.
2. Press refresh. This removes the hints already connected and then the pointer points to the correct source.
This has been an issue for several months.
(PS note to users: please don’t attach any of these sources on this PID; allow the engineers to see the problem first. Thanks)
Note: the repeatable same problem exists for those PIDs with two hints (example K2YD-24Z, 99ZB-BW6, K813-8VV ) but the reset method can’t be demonstrated.
It may just be an internet communications glitch as well; but it is very repeatable.

What I do to keep myself straight is refresh the page after either attaching a hint or deciding to merge a duplicate of not. Patrons should not have to refresh the page after each action, the system could do that and the issue would disappear.0

Ken G Moyer said: If you go to the show all link and open in a new tab you will have all the data you will need, except that when a item has been done you have to reload that tab to remove from list. It should be automatic to remove it or at least change to red/pink color text to show that you accessed the doc.0

Tom Huber said: Some thoughts...
First, one of the goals for the current user interface was to reduce the amount of material that had to be download to the user's computer from the servers. It is my understanding that this was designed to overcome slow internet speeds between the servers and the user who may be located in a remote area or be subjected to a slow internet infrastructure.
Refreshing the details page means that the entire download has to be done again - or - refresh only part of the screen, which is done most of the time.
FamilySearch should not have to refresh the entire page, but only that area impacted by any changes that have been made (a hint attached or dismissed, for instance).
The problem is complicated because the action of dismissing or attaching a hinted source does not take place on the details page. Therefore, there is no trigger for the detail page to seek new information about that section of the page because it will not be aware of whether the user cancelled out of the "show all" "dismiss" or "source linker" and took no action. Or if the user attached the record with the source linker, Or if the user declared the source as not a match.
Regardless, the purple research helps are updated, so why not the hints? The same holds true for potential duplicates.0 -

As of this morning, I'm still having this issue--after I attach a record hint as a source and return to the person's page, I still see the hint I just attached (yeah, I realize I can refresh the page and that's what I've been doing).
But I would love it if the hints refreshed automatically, just like the sources now do. I love that new feature!
