Luz Platzer said: I will include my observations about my issues with the new merge here as well...we need to be able to see the information pertaining to the documents in the same area, like before. It appears that the new way will open a new window/tab for *each* document. That’s a lot of back and forth and leaves a lot of room for error. The only improvement I could see to the old merge was being able to edit/add names (or variations) and or dates (v. The dates just got added but the information would not transfer to what was displayed on screen.)0

Jeff Wiseman said: Things have changed enough to certainly create some confusion. Even though the process doesn't even work correctly at the moment, I can see a couple of items in the we structure where FS engineers are attempting to improve on some things.
Anyway, it appears that all of the "down arrows" work as they do on many other websites (although the use of a "+" or "-" symbol is more typical). I.e., they expand the item to show more details. This allows you to see the same kind of information that you would on the person's detail page when the "Detail View" swit=ch is turned on.
The right arrow "Replace" button does basically the same thing that the replace in the old merge did. Only now the replacement is of the item in the right column.
There were several discussions about this going back a couple of months as to which column the surviving record should be displayed in. Looks like the right column won out. I do believe though that this makes the merge look more like the way it does on the mobil app.
Although I've not used it at all yet, it looks like they've slowed down the process a bit with the extra steps. Although it may seem a nuisance to some, I believe that it also is intentional, the reasons of which I am in agreement with (but that's another subject :-)0 -
Luz Platzer said: “‘Detail View’ switch is turned on” Where does one turn that “on?” The detail view before included the information (names, dates, places). All I see now is the name of the record, the url link to the record and citation.0

Luz Platzer said: It may help to understand that as an issue to me if I explain that my dear Mexican ancestors used their names in various forms. Sometimes the only way to decipher the puzzle is to coordinate the relationships between *everybody* in the record. One way that helped me was to see the contained names/dates/relationships in the records provided.0

Roy F Hunt said: In the example above if you click on the URL you get the information provided by the source which is what we want to see. The system should take us directly there in the first place.0

Jeff Wiseman said: Luz,
Ah! So you are specifically talking about the Sources section. As Roy F Hunt points out, you can get to that information by clicking on the URL.
Before, you only had to click on the title of the source and it would expand to show the full citation, index data, and (if present) the digital image all in the same window. Now, when you expand the citation using the down arrow, it only shows you the citation, so it is now a 2 click operation to get to where you were before.
Anyway, I can't explore this at the moment as they have pulled all that new software from the system (presumably in order to fix some critical bugs--like the fact that it just plain doesn't work in some circumstances)
Since your issue is a bit different from the OP's, after FS reinstates this feature with whatever fixes they are going to make, if you are still seeing this awkward behavior then start a new topic specifically dealing with your issue. It will get more attention that way and it will be easier for the FS employees to discern it.
By the Way, welcome to the FamilySearch Forum at GetSatisfaction.com. I am not an employee but we have been told that all messages are read by FS. They frequently (usually?) will not respond, but there are a lot of knowledgable folks here on the forum that can give you useful feedback regarding your questions and comments.0 -
Luz Platzer said: Roy, in the format above when I clicked on the URL a new tab/window would open. I would have to switch back/forth to compare data. However, since my last reply here the system is back to the old merge (scratching head) and now I see the data.0

Luz Platzer said: Thank you Jeff. I have been on the site for a while just never had the need to post here. But the new merge really threw me for a loop. In my lineage there is a lot of merging to do/correct (I’m kinda militant about facts lining up LOL!).
Yes, I just noticed the system has reverted and now I have the info easily accessible.0 -
Jeff Wiseman said: Yes, I've been watching this today. The software that they loaded earlier had some pretty serious flaws in it so I suspect they will reload to software after they've done some fixing. Here's one example of an issue:
