Sylvia Vanderhoeft said: As I have been researching family trees for some years (for me as well as other people I find it extremely annoying when namesare indexed in todays form ( for instance Ludovicus becomes Louis) for someone who is not used to looking for family members i find it sends them into the wrong direction! Because if you search for someone called Ludovicus and this person has been indexed under the name Louis they won't be sure that it is the same person. Sorry but this is my experience.

Do you have an example where the original document and the indexed value are so radically different? No amount of bad handwriting is going to make Ludovicus look like Louis. Without being able to see an example and having the proof before my eyes, it will be hard to convince me that you are not just seeing an indexed record for your relative Ludovicus where in the original record, which may or may not be available, he is called Lucus.
