The details provided are GS Film Number 527478
Images Available
To view these images do one of the following:
Access the site at a family history center
Access the site at a FamilySearch affiliate library
However, if I look at the catalog entry for 527478, which is part of https://www.familysearch.org/search/c... I get the message

To view these images do one of the following:
Access the site at a family history center.
Other than visiting a FamilySearch affiliate library, how do I find out which advice is correct? Is this film, and others in a large collection, available at a FS affiliate library?
As stated in the title, I am a non church member. I understand church members have access to this collection of digitised microfilms on their home computers.

I'd guess either a change in access conditions is underway, or there is a technical error. Without having a copy of the contract between FS and the record custodian we can only speculate.0

Adrian Bruce said: Actually, we don't need the contract - that would only tell us a theoretical "why". We need to know the actual "what", ie what the restriction is.
Just for clarity, let me emphasise again, that my concern here is not that this stuff is restricted. My concern is that two different means of accessing the same image, give two different restrictions. And we're not looking at documentation that is maintained manually and could get out of step with the actual access enforced in the code, we're looking at that actual, code based, access. And short of actually making a possibly fruitless journey to an Associate Library, we don't know what the access conditions are for this data.
Based on my mental model of the way it all works, this must surely be a bug? Unless.... Unless what? No idea! Very curious. And interesting!0 -
A van Helsdingen said: True, the contract only gives what is intended to be the access conditions. That may differ from reality.
Reminds of me of many German church records whose entry in the catalog gives specific details about access inside and outside of Europe (there are tighter restrictions inside Europe). For some of the records, it is clarified whether the Faroe Islands and Iceland (from memory) are inside Europe- this was obviously important to the record custodians. I strongly doubt that in all cases the actual viewing restrictions comply with those statements. There is a good chance of making mistakes or not being able to enforce geographical restrictions.0
