Use the already-tagged face during portrait selection.

As it is, I get dropped into a photo that may have several people in it, and I'm left to (a) guess which of those faces is my ancestor [sometimes I don't know without reviewing the tagged faces], and then (b) pan and scale the image to get that face to show up in the circle.
I already identified where this ancestor's face is in the image. The UI should start with that, and let me adjust it if needed (which might be often, as the circle and rectangle may not frame the same face quite the same).
Furthermore, the tags on the image should be visible during this process--or at least the tags for the ancestor I'm selecting a portrait for.

I really do not find the current methodology to be an issue. I believe you suggestion would only work if no portrait showed and there were tagged pictures in memories. Seems like a big effort to program for a very small gain. Maybe I am not understanding0

In addition, an uploaded memory may not be ideally suited for a portrait0 -

But once you've chosen the picture, it currently brings up the picture with the circle placed somewhere random on it, and none of the existing face tags displayed. So if you don't happen to remember which of those faces is the one you're choosing a portrait for, you have to pull up a different window and look at the memory elsewhere or something, which is awkward. This isn't a huge issue if it's a relative you know well, but often I'm dealing with distant relatives who don't have a portrait. This has happened three times to me in the last week.
I don't think it is much effort at all to set the initial position of the circle where there's already a tagged face instead of in a completely random position.
It would be a bit more effort (but not too much, it seems) to also draw the existing boxes and allow hovering to display the names, just like the main memory viewer already does.0 -
