Launa Newman Larsen said: I am trying to learn to read the Old German Script, Kurrent. I watched a training video last year that was by Barbara Bell. There are 3 lessons. Now only the View Course Content is listed. It has a note: To view this video please use Internet Explorer or Firefox as your web browser. I am not finding the video to watch. Have they been taken off Family Search? Are you going to add them back on? I have a case #06904748 if you would like to see the notes when I called in.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you, Launa Larsen

Presenter: Barbara Bell
with links to Lessons 2 and 3
It says Note: To view this video please use Internet Explorer or Firefox as your web browser, but I have a note (see below) that you can also access most FamilySearch videos using Chrome. I also get a message You need Flash Player 8.0 or above to view SmartBuilder content.
I have an iMac with Safari, and the situation with Flash always confuses me, although I believe I have Flash, so I don't know whether I can access the Lesson or not. However, in terms of a previous topic dated 23 June 2019 I was able to access it then. The problem seems to be with Flash.

RATHER SAD THAT THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM, GIVEN FLASH IS TO BE WITHDRAWN AT THE END OF 2020.0 -
Tom Huber said: Flash is going to be more of a problem as time ticks away on its support. There are a number of pages, including NOAAs Weather loops, that need flash. There are temporary solutions, but they are not permanent. See https://www.howtogeek.com/434334/how-...
The only problem is that the current version of Chrome is now 80.something. The article describes some settings that can be adjusted to allow Chrome to use Flash, at least temporarily.
The article cited above also says that "Mozilla is even more aggressive—it will remove Flash support entirely in early 2020." Mozilla is the organization behind Firefox.
What this means is that FamilySearch will need to recode the various flash-required videos so that Flash will no longer be required. They will have to convert the videos to use HTML 5. https://turbofuture.com/computers/The... provides some information on some of the problems that FamilySearch may be facing with regard to courses such as those that use Flash. In essence, these need to be converted, but such conversion may require that the course be re-recorded using HTML5 encoding...JavaScript and enhanced HTML functionality that has been gradually introduced under the umbrella term "HTML5" over the past decade or so, and other related technologies which can be implemented in the browser alone without the need for a plugin. -- https://www.howtogeek.com/434334/how-...

Adrian Bruce said: My Firefox browser tells me "Firefox is having problems playing some course videos. Please view this course in another browser." (My emphasis)
If I click "View Course Content", I get the message:
"You need Flash Player 8.0 or above to view SmartBuilder content.
"Click here to download the latest flash player."
I'm not desperately fond of Flash so I'm not intending to download it, so I don't know if Firefox would eventually play it.0 -
David Newton said: Flash is completely obsolete. It's ridiculous that Familysearch still has such content on their website. Just upload it to Youtube and deal with the ban on Youtube removed.0
