Poor Indexing Needs Correction

While we wait for FS to expand index corrections, I have two thoughts for you.
One, Haberland versus Habrzland is really only one or two letters off (depending on how you count 'er' versus 'rz'), so it's really not too bad. I've found the father's title of Tisztelendő "Reverend" misread and misindexed as Fiztdeado for the surname, and in my favorite case, the father's name skipped entirely, the mother's name of Aloysia turned into Aloysius and indexed as the father, and the father's religion and occupation turned into the mother: Cath Arendator.
Two, you found him anyway.0 -
Erika Campbell said: We are able to correct anything that is mis-indexed, I do it all the time. It is a wonderful way to get the information correct. Especially names. The corrected names will be shown and underneath the mis-indexed name. It is a great idea. It is a fairly new feature but very essential.

Juli said: No, not anything. It depends on the the collection. As I said, the Slovakia church books that the original poster cited is not included in the index-correction feature, meaning that nothing in that index can currently be changed in any way.0

Juli said: As I said, unfortunately there are no steps for the Slovakia church books. Not included in the feature. Can't be done.
If you should encounter an indexing error in a collection where the feature is enabled, such as Ellis Island arrivals or Hungarian Catholic baptisms, then just open the search result in its own tab. There will be an "edit" link next to each name; click that and basically follow the onscreen directions.0
