"Language" heading on the "Find An indexing Project" Page

As well as "Countries", and "Projects" on the "Find An Indexing Project" page, couldn't there be a "Language" heading where someone who wants to index in a certain language can see all the records in that language right from the get go?

What I ended up doing was marking the projects I found that I thought I would be interested in with the star in the upper corner. This marked them as favorites. This way when you want to find them again, they will show up on your list under favorites and eliminates the others. After doing one or two of them, if you don't like them you just click on the star again and it will no longer be one of your favorites and you won't have them included on your list. If you do like it, then you just go back to it as long as you like.
It isn't a perfect solution, but so far it is the best I have found until support fixes things so that the language selection works.0 -

https://www.familysearch.org/indexing...
Under Asia (an area of interested I noticed that there were some Sri Lanka (Ceylon) records in Dutch (11% indexed). I image that that most indexers would be Dutch speakers in countries other than Sri Lanka.
If there was a prominent table provided on the Indexing Projects page,
with the languages displayed, perhaps you may interest those who speak/read the language, even though they have no connection with the particular country. In this case a Dutch speaker or person with experience in old Dutch records, may see that there were some Dutch records to transcribe, even though they had no particular connection with Sri Lanka.
The map on the indexing page could be made smaller, so that there was room for a languages table. I would have the table, with the various languages displayed , so that it was immediately obvious. There could then be links through to record details.
I believe by introducing a languages table, you could enable indexing projects to be completed quicker
This seems such a simple suggestion to implement, it seems to me a great pity there has been no progress on this matter.
Indexing Team, what are your objections?
Also, given the rarity of transcribers of old Dutch records (and no doubt many other records) why not a regular blog entry "Seeking transcribers for ..."
Does the Indexing Team/FamilySearch have any procedures for contacting the Church/Family History Centres in this instance Holland, to ask for indexing volunteers?0 -
Juli said: Y'all have it easy: at least your projects aren't labeled with a totally unrelated language that's not even in the same language family and is written in a totally different alphabet.
(Sorry, I'm still peeved that the Hungarian indexing project is labeled as Russian.)0 -
MaureenE said: Very sad to see that what I am sure is a SIMPLE programming change like showing the projects by language has not been implemented after all this time, and I suppose will never be.
Have a look at a video from Rootstech, link originally post by Gordon Collett in the topic Two Must See Presentations
The video is FamilySearch Executive Town Hall - FamilySearch Executives
https://www.rootstech.org/video/famil...
Have a listen to what the Indexing Manager/Director/guy is saying. He seems to be unconnected with what is happening at grass roots level, when a simple change like that suggested above cannot be implemented.
There are still Sri Lanka Records in Dutch available to be indexed. I'm not sure if they were the same records available at the time of my post above in July 2018, but I have never seen ANYTHING since then requesting volunteers familiar with Dutch records.
I get the impression it is a waste of our time making suggestions.0 -

MaureenE said: It is now possible to reach an option for language, but it is so hidden away that you would would probably not find it if you were casually looking.
Looking at the Indexing page https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/
If you click on Find A Project
https://www.familysearch.org/indexing...
then click on Projects
https://www.familysearch.org/indexing...
You will then see a heading "Project Name" which has an "up/down" icon (arrows). If you click here you will be presented with the option Project language, where you can then select a language
Given the language option is now there, why not make it much more visible. Go back to the page https://www.familysearch.org/indexing... and where it says
Countries Projects add a third box Languages.
Juli who posted above will be pleased to see that Hungarian is now listed as a language option for indexing0 -
