Ways around the missing "Sign In" on the landing page when not signed in.

The biggest problem will occur when a user sits down at a new computer and wants to sign into FamilySearch. There should be no need to ever click on a menu (of any kind) to see the "sign in" option. In fact, the Create account should be secondary to the sign in link.
Regardless, if you are set up, there are two (possibly more) options available to avoid the problem:
* Using a third party application that requires being signed into FamilySearch to operate correctly -- this includes the applications that read the Family Tree data using your credentials.
* Using a bookmark into the site. For instance, I have several bookmarks that go someplace in the site and if not signed in, will take me to the sign in page.
Regardless, that does not resolve the problem. It only bypasses that landing page where the problem exists.
