A van Helsdingen said: Current law is that censuses are public after 72 years. That could be extended at any time, and I think at some point due to people living longer it will occur. In many other countries 100 years is standard for these sorts of records.0

Matt Daly said: I believe they'll be released on April 1st, 2022 since "census day" was technically April 1st. In 2012 I was in DC when the 1940 census was released and the national archives had an event for it. From my understanding, all the digital images will likely be available to browse in some fashion on April 1st or shortly thereafter. Being able to "search" them probably won't happen for a few months as volunteers index all of them.0
