Dutch Indexings

Jordi Kloosterboer said: It is a shame that all these indexes for event places have been indexed with only the "Gemeente" (municipality) place and not where the person was actually born (in the town where the parents were living). For example: In this image it says that Jannes Dijkhuizen ... living in Terwolde in this municipality derclared to .... that Aartje Riphagen, his wife .. had a daughter in their house by the first name of Johanna Arendina...
Therefore, the event place is Terwolde, Voorst, Gelderland, Netherlands (probably better to write it like that even though the record actually says Terwolde in deze gemeente) and the event registration is Voorst, Gelderland, Netherlands since the book is for the whole municipality. I guess this is something I could edit later this year but for future indexing projects in the Netherlands it would be good to have this distinction.
By the way, I do not know how the project instructions were done though--if they included this or not.

I've indexed several collections of Netherlands Burgelijke Stand on FS, but can't quite remember what the instructions were for the birth records from Noord-Holland, Gelderland and Amsterdam. I think its more likely than not that only the gemeente was instructed to be included.
Here's the instructions for the geboorteplaats field in the current Amsterdam Overlijden project:
"Voer de plaatsnaam van de geboorte van de overledene in.
Als er verschillende niveaus voor de plaatsnaam vermeld staan, voert u alle plaatsnamen in en scheidt u ze met een spatie.
Corrigeer verkeerde spellingen niet en neem afkortingen over zonder ze voluit in te voeren.
Bij webindexeren kunt u bij het typen van persoons- en plaatsnamen interpunctie gebruiken, maar dit is niet verplicht"
The number of Dutch BS indexing projects has slowed down, with only the Amsterdam Overlijden remaining (which has never been indexed before by anyone else). They seem instead to be copying the records from OpenArch rather than duplicating work- the provincial archives and the indexing website VeleHanden has already indexed most of the "low hanging fruit". So it might be better to direct this question to OpenArch or Gelders Archief rather than FamilySearch.0 -
Jordi Kloosterboer said: Ah that makes sense. Yeah it is better to not duplicate work. I have only ever glanced at VeleHanden but maybe I'll do some indexing there to see what it is like before I say anything to them.0

Juli said: I don't know about Dutch projects specifically, but in general, records that come in large groups from a single place (municipality, registration district, or the like) often don't add any placename fields to the indexing. Instead, the location is added in pre- or post-processing to the entire group at once. This can lose a level or two of specificity, but greatly speeds up indexing.
(Unfortunately, the pre- or post-processing step has major problems. On multi-part films, the location of the first item gets assigned to everything on the entire film, resulting in events being associated with completely wrong locations. Also, the batch-supplied location is often associated with the wrong standardized place, such as Ohio records being standardized to Ohio county in Virginia, or vice versa.)0 -

A van Helsdingen said: For the Amsterdam Overlijden (Deaths) I am currently doing, the death place is not an indexed field. It will added in the post-processing as Juli says, and for this project its very straightforward as all the records are from the same place. Any information recorded about the address or wijk (neighbourhood) of death is therefore not indexed.0
