Adding family members from the heart

For example, in some countries in the countryside it was a custom to take care of a child without parents or a person working in the farm or with the family became a family member over the years, there is no way to link these beloved ones to one’s tree.
Did anyone think of that?
Thank you!

This could handle things such as God-parents, etc.
However, I believe that your specific examples are already handled by the tools. For example, where parents are taking care of a child (e.g., orphaned), it can be properly shown in the system by first adding that child to the family of those parents, and then setting the Parent-Child Relationship Type to an appropriate value. Minimally, this would be "Guardianship", although if supported by records it might also be "Foster" or even "Adoptive"

It helps although I don’t see a ‘sibliing’ relationship. For example, my grandmother had a ‘sister’’ that was part of the family without being related, I would love to add her but don’t know how.
I’ll keep digging in the answers posted at Tom Martel’s post.

Jeff Wiseman said: Well, your grandmother and her sister do already show up as siblings in the same family with their parents. The fact that she lived with her sister and brother-in-law can be documented in the Other Information area (certainly in residences), but obviously it is not shown graphically the way you mentioned. I think that is the type of request that Joe was asking about.0
