A van Helsdingen said: There is a process for an Indexing Project to be created. The most important requirement is that the record custodian- the archive or library that owns the records- gives consent. Recent records ( within the last 100 years) possibly cannot be indexed due to privacy laws.
And then FS must organised the films into an indexing project, write the instructions and oversee the project. It has limited resources, and the number of indexers is obviously limited.
But hopefully your post will be noticed by a staff member who works in indexing or records acquisition, and can look into prioritizing some Samoan projects.0 -
A van Helsdingen said: I don't know anything about Samoan genealogy. But I looked at the FS Catalog and noticed a severe shortage of vital records. Many of the government-kept civil registration records didn't start until the 20th century and may be affected by privacy laws. As for church records, it seems that only Latter Day Saint records (13% of the 2001 population) have been digitized by FS.
FS may need to do a lot more negotiation with custodians and filming in Samoa if they are to have more Indexing projects.0
