Poor Change to Memories Upload Process

Ray Batig said: The new changes to the Memories are not working well. I used to upload a photo and then click on it to open it even if it was not approved. Then the page would refresh and then you could tag the person in the picture. Now things work similarly, however, there is a new Black header that seems to interfere with beginning the tagging process since the 'tag person in the photo' prompt is not showing up. There is no way I have found to get the page to continue. Then when you are done adding information if things work, there does not seem to be a way to get back to the details page, there used to be the persons name above the photo that served as the return link. If you click the X then you lose everything. This is a very poor change and appears not to be tested while making a simple action way too complex.

I will submit a bug report to the engineering team to get it fixed.
In the meantime, here's a work-around.
When you display the photo, click "Open In New Tab" on the right side of the black banner This will take you to a view where the "tag person in the photo" prompt works and all should be good.
There is also a way to get back to the details page. On the left side of the black header are "bread crumbs" that will take you back to either the Memories tab (click Memories) of the person page or the Person detail page (click name).
See the screenshot below.

Amy Archibald said: I'm finding with the new change that loading the image automatically tags the entire image for the person. I have to go back in and edit the tag to specify just the area I want tagged. I haven't been able to make a work around to just a small area in the beginning of the process. I've now down this about 10 times today.0

Beth Ann Wiseman said: This sounds like the same thing. Editing the tag is another work around.
Try the “Open In a New Tab” work around and see if that works for you.
I’m hoping this gets fixed soon.0 -
Tom Huber said: With the exception of a recent period of time, when I have added a memory for a person from the person's memory tab page, it has tagged the entire document to that person. As such, I have (and still do) click on edit tag and then size the tagged area on the document accordingly.
I don't upload many photographs of a single person, so generally do not perform an upload from the person's page.0 -
Tom Huber said: I just uploaded a death certificate and did not see any black header, so that is likely fixed.0

Amy Archibald said: Yes! The 'Open in a New Tab' does the trick for me. Thanks!0

Ray Batig said: Hi Beth Ann,
Thanks for the work around this has been driving me nuts. There is no need for the "X" since you point our that we can exit the tag page by clicking the crumbs or links. There is one other thing that needs correction. On the initial tag page with problems there is a line at the bottom that says share what you know about this photo. It gets int he way when you tag a person and then have to connect them using the persons id. I suggest that this would be much better as a addition to the list of Details instead of across the entire screen bottom.
Thank you for your help!0 -
Beth Ann Wiseman said: I’m not sure what you were looking at, but the black header is still there. The team is still working on the tag issue.0

Tom Huber said: I was looking at the image from the person's memories tab page. No black header. Chrome on a Windows 10 computer.0

Beth Ann Wiseman said: This should be fixed now. The black header is still there and you should see a tagging prompt when you view the image.
Thanks for your feedback. It helps to make FamilySearch better.
If this still isn't working for you, please post back with the steps to reproduce the issue.0
