Immigration record hint protocol for passenger records
For your consideration, I have a relative LR8H-FPJ
He worked as a ship crew member, not as a passenger.
Each time he returned to USA, the record hint defaults to indicate that it is an immigration event.
It is not.
Similarly, there are people who traveled as passengers multiple times on planes and ships.
Each arrival event is recorded incorrectly as an immigration event.
The default record hint should just be identified as a port entry event.
Let the descendant or genealogist determine if it is an immigration event or not.
Thank you.Sincerely, DK

Very frustrating indeed! I have a great uncle who traveled frequently to paint in Europe and Central and South America. I'd really like to be able to add the many journeys that are in family search to his timeline.

FYI
Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
In such cases ...
I DO NOT get 'frustrated' ...
I simply "Change", the "Event", in the "Other Information" Section, from that of "Immigration", to that of "Overseas Travel".
ie.
In the "Other Information" Section ...
I "Delete", the "Event", of "Immigration", that is created, when one adds such a "Source", pertaining to "Immigration" (that, is NOT really, Immigration/Emigration).
And, I immediately, create an NEW "Event", of "Overseas Travel", for the particular "Source".
[ I usually have two (x2), if available - ie. One for Departure (from/to); and, One for Arrival (to/from ... ]
It actually looks, 'neat and tidy' (if I might say); and, does away with things being, incorrectly, "Labeled"; as, Immigration/Emigration; when, they are not.
Good Luck.
Just my thoughts.
Brett
ps: I got over such 'frustration', a long time ago ... once, I work that one out ...
