Destroying temple cards
1) I have spoken to several people who feel that the completed temple card is a tangible confirmation to them that the ordinances have been done for that relative.
2) There have been a few times where the ordinance was not recorded correctly and I have been able to rectify it by showing the completed temple card.
3) It creates more work for the patron as they have to reprint after every ordinance.
4) It makes it more difficult to do other ordinances that depend on the correct order of ordinances be done first, eg. parents need to be sealed first before children sealings.
I would recommend that going forward this could be improved by doing the following:
1) designate a temple or temples where the card will not be destroyed (the patron could hopefully then choose which temple to attend.
2) Save the pink or blue colored cards and destroy the white ones only.
I have been told that the reason they are moving to destroying the cards after ordinances is that is improves correct recording. Not sure why this would be. I sincerely hope that the plan going forward is to not destroy all temple cards.

We all share an active interest in using the resources of this site and as users, we have various levels of knowledge and experience and do our best to help each other with concerns, issues, and/or questions.
First, this decision was not made by FamilySearch. There have been numerous discussions about this for several months and we have been told that the decision was made by the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In essence, the idea is to reduce the number of missed cards by performing an audit to make sure the cards were scanned. Since you will receive a notice when the card is scanned (via FamilySearch Messages -- under the "Temple" tab -- if you know that you performed an ordinance at a specific temple on a specific date, you should contact the temple. They will retain the cards for a period of time before destroying them.
There is a knowledge article, "https://www.familysearch.org/help/sal... that has more information.
Since this is not a decision that was made by FamilySearch, any decisions will need to come through the Priesthood Channels from the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve through the Temple Department. Personal concerns should be taken up with your local Priesthood leadership -- that is, your Stake President.0 -
Jeff Wiseman said: Tom, that Knowledge Article, like many others at present, only produces a web page with the FS headings, but everything else is blank.
FS has not fixed the salesforce/ViewArticle pages that were broken just recently0 -

What "Browser" are you using?
It works FINE in 'Google' "Chrome".
But, NOT in 'Mozilla' "FireFox".

As this post only really relates to Members of the Church; then, 'Yes', that "Knowledge Article" is ONLY, for; and, available to, Members of the Church.

'Yes', that will be a sad day when that happens.
Inevitable; but, sad.

ps: It is just like the other day when I went into the "Motor Registry" to make an application for something; and, was told that we can NO LONGER make such applications 'over the counter' anymore; as, it can ONLY be done 'On-Line' now.

Amy Archibald said: The temple ordinance cards are a function of the temple recorder's office. They have given us the ability to print them in our homes. We can also have the recorder's office print them for us.
Since they function as a recording tool, the Temple Department controls how they are used. They have determined that the recording of the ordinances is the most important part of the card. So they will retain the card to ensure the ordinances are recorded properly. Once they have determined they have been recorded, the cards will be destroyed as they have served their purpose.
The cards were never intended to be a keepsake or memorabilia.0 -

'Yes', the "Cards" for "Temple" Work ARE a recording tool to ensure that the "Ordinances" that have been "Completed" are recorded; and, may NOT have been originally INTENDED as a "... keepsake or memorabilia ..."; but, whether the "Temple Department" likes it or not, the "Cards" have and do become a "... keepsake or memorabilia ..." for many.
The "Cards" DO NOT need to be "Retained" by the "Temples" (and, then just "Destroyed").
There have been a number of suggestions on how SECONDARY processing of the "Cards" can be achieved, WITHOUT the need to "Retain" the "Cards".
If a Member does not request the "Return" of a "Card" after each "Ordinance" is "Completed" and "Processed" (ie. Recorded); and, does not "Collect" the "Card' in a timely manner; then, fine, the "Temples" can go ahead "Destroy" the "Card".
Whereas, if a Member DOES request the "Return" of a "Card" after each "Ordinance" is "Completed" and "Processed" (ie. Recorded); and, DOES "Collect" the "Card' in a timely manner, no problems/issues.
But, to go 'cold turkey'; and, NOT "Return" a "Card" after each "Ordinance" is "Completed" and "Processed" (ie. Recorded), WHEN such "Return" has been requested by a Member, is so WRONG.
As far as I am aware, if a Member DOES request the "Return" of a "Card" after each "Ordinance" is "Completed" and "Processed" (ie. Recorded), such "Cards" ARE "Returned".
If the aforementioned is not happening at a "Temple"; then, it would be interesting to know.

With temple cards being destroyed - please make it easier to reprint temple cards still needing additional temple ordinances
Please add an option on Completed Temple Records to be able to print a new temple card for all checked names

When the cards are destroyed by the temple, the temple should update the electronic record to show that cards are no longer 'printed'.
For example, someone prints a card with multiple ordinances on it (BCIESP). They go to the temple and do Baptism and Confirmation, then the temple destroys the card. It is no longer 'printed'.
But the electronic record will show that IESP are 'printed' then they are not.
This needs to be fixed.

I too was not happy about the decision to not have the cards back and printing the same ancestor card several times for each ordinance. There's lots of ink wasted on the male card, specially, the solid black in background where the white male icon and the Male word is. I would like to see it the male card as the female and S-Spouse cards have no solid black background. Printing at home, I love that idea, except for the money I have spend on black ink to print the male cards. Back to the subject, I did find another way to still keep the ordinances. I use the Opera browser and they have to the right of the search box, some little icons there, and one of them is a camera icon to take a snapshot of whatever i want to take. I use this tool when I am at familysearch using the Opera browser. I go to the person ordinances page. There, all of the ordinances are recorded. I click the snapshot icon and resize to get their name and ordinances that were complete in full. Then, I save them on a folder or folders alphabetically. The reason I do this, is because some people merge and mess up person page and sometimes the ordinances that were complete are gone. When I called FS in the past, they wanted me to re-do the ordinances. This way I have proof from their own web site that the ordinances were completed and then the ordinances are restored to the person.
