Rick R said: Please allow a way to add a second spouse with their children so we can easily see relations between half-brothers and sisters. For instance my grandfather's father died when he was a toddler and his mother remarried and had other children I knew as my great aunts and uncles however I cannot see them on the same family time line (or at least to my knowledge) because they do not have the same mother and father.

Gordon Collett said: The time line should be showing what you want to see. First be sure that the settings are set to show everything included:

This does show all the marriages and children for the person the timeline is based on.

Checking the time lines for is children, however, I do see that the time line does not show half-siblings for the person, only full siblings. So you can only see the relationship for half-siblings on the time line when the starting person is their common parent. If I change the person I am looking at from the man whose timeline shows above to one of his spouses, only children of that spouse show, none of her husband's children with his other wives.

Regarding aunts and uncles, they will show as siblings of the main person if you have the timeline set to show them. But you can only see one set - maternal or paternal - at a time, again depending of the starting person for the timeline.

Jeff Wiseman said: Gordon, this is a common issue with pedigree and fan charts as well since you need to define the "default" parents to use in a chart of any kind.

I am curious though if the timeline display respects the "Preferred Parents" settings. If it did, you could display one set of siblings or the other in the timeline, or if the children are show with all of their parents with the correct parent-child relationships (e.g., step, biological), then you would think that they would all show up on the timeline.

Jeff Wiseman said: I just checked and the timeline chart doesn't seem to respect the preferred parent settings. So I am GUESSING that step children might show up on the timeline if the person for that timeline is shown as being a child in both families.

I show up as a step-child for my step-mother (I set this up some time ago), and yes, her time line does show my birth, even though she is not my biological mother.

Tom Huber said: I should add that there is nothing that shows that I am her step-child in the time line.

Jeff Wiseman said: But does YOUR timeline show events for all three parents and other step siblings?

Tom Huber said: Yes, it shows the death of my biological mother, my biological father, and my step-mother. I have not added any information for my step-siblings (they are living).

Jeff Wiseman said: I thought so.

In Rick R's original question, it wasn't quite clear to me if he was just wanting that combination in the timeline, or with the lineage in general (i.e., pedigree charts, etc.). So assuming that it is just the timeline he has asking about, the answer would be YES. All you need to do is set up all of the family relationships in the FamilyTree correctly and the timeline will automatically be able to discern them.
