Kathryn Bowman said: Love the ability to edit source records where the names have been indexed incorrectly!

It would be great if this option were available for ALL records! Is this in the works? (See this ID #L2PV-RVD and look at the name variations; some records I could edit, others I could not.)

A van Helsdingen said: Some records will never be editable, because they are copied from partner websites such as Ancestry.com. Those partner websites wish to control their own records and not let FS users make edits.

However I believe the long-term plan for FS is that all records that were filmed/images and indexed by them will become editable eventually.

Tom Huber said: Editing any FamilySearch Index (not imported from another source, such as the Social Security Death Index, Find a Grave, etc.) is relatively new and still under development.

It took ten years to even get any ability in this area and it may take another ten years before all elements of a FamilySearch-produced index are editable. I hope that isn't the case, but one never knows.

Indexes imported from other organizations will never be editable on FamilySearch.
