For about the 3rd time now, the dismissed hints list is broken and no longer displays the REASON tha

These reasons for dismissal have been working, then disappeared, then was working again, then disappeared, etc. several times now. Isn't there any way to fix this so that once it is fixed, it will STAY fixed??

Jeff Wiseman said: And while the engineers are on this, please also fix the incorrect totaling mechanism that has been broken for ages. In the example I gave above, it is OBVIOUS that there are exactly 6 "Helps" there (1 Dismissed and 5 not dismissed). However on the main page the total has been broken again thus only showing that there are 5 helps in the show all section instead of the 6 that are really there:
If there are no undismissed hints under the "show all", but there are 10 dismissed hints, it displays on the main page as "0". There is a lot of discussion on this forum as to ways we can prevent others from repeating things like merges or attaching sources that are inappropriate. And yet here where the major part of the reasons to NOT do certain things are totally hidden because the "Hints counter" is broken.
Having ten dismissed hints on a record should be an obvious clue to many people that something isn't right, but because the total counter is broken it becomes hidden from sight and people now have to try and get other's attentions either through adding billboards in the Life Sketch or putting uneraseable data in a discussion somewhere.0 -
Tom Huber said: I don't remember the dismissed hints (a possible merge that has been declared "Not a Match" is arguably not a dismissed "hint") ever being included in the "count"; only remaining, unprocessed hints.
However, that is more a semantical issue than anything else.
What we are really talking about are Research Helps. The count should include all of those that are unprocessed, whether they are possible duplicates, source hints, or some data issue (missing, erroneous, etc.).
The "show all" page is a different story. It needs to display both the unprocessed and rejected (dismissed) Research Helps, and in the case of the latter, the reason statement provided by the user who rejected (dismissed) the help.
This seems to go way back to when the current "tabbed" profiles were introduced over a year ago and problems with the "show all" page. I don't know if those issues were ever fully resolved, but I seem to remember the reason statements provided bouncing between being shown, not shown, and inconsistently shown between the various categories.
I think it is important to show the dismissed data issues and the reason statement for them, as well. As far as data issues that were resolved, those do not need to be displayed because they were resolved and not dismissed. This includes missing standardization entries.0 -
joe martel said: Jeff, are you sure that dismissed data problem had a reason?
I went to another Person that had dismissed and see the Reasons, and guessing on the third one the user did not provide a Reason?

Jeff Wiseman said: Hi Joe,
I was the one that dismissed the Possible Duplicate yesterday and I had typed in a paragraph for the reason box. Is it possible to dismiss a possible duplicate, enter information into the reason box and then do something that would not save the reason but would still complete the Dismissal? If so that might have happened.
All I know it that I found a couple of the same type of Possible Duplicates for both this guy and his wife that I had to dismiss, and rather than recomposing the reason text, I went back to the example I gave in order to copy the reason text to paste in the other dismissals I was making. When I did so I was disappointed to see that the text was no longer there.
Also note that if you look at the change history of John Blanton, the only "Not a Match" that occurred and was recorded was a month ago with the cryptic "judge" for the reason this information is correct. There is no entry for what I did:
The person making this change and several others the related to these families had used this same ridiculous reason for all of them.
I played with this a bit and I THINK I know what might have happened. I may have been looking at the Dismissed Helps tab. I selected "Review Merge" in order to examine the differences better. I think that I then selected the "Not a Match" when I was inside the new MERGE windows. It then Prompted me for the Reason, which I entered (because the original reasoner the dismissal a month ago didn't have any useful information in it).
It seems that the previous dismissal in the dismissed helps screen did update because the "Reason this information is Correct" field that previously had "judge" in it has disappeared. but the text that I entered has not replaced it.0 -
Jeff Wiseman said: By the way, both the "Review Merge" and "May be a Match" buttons do the same thing except the vitals comparison in the "May be a Match" screen is FAR MORE INFERIOR to the merge information in the "Review Merge" window. Seems a bit odd having two different buttons that do the same thing only with one of them a lot more superior than the other.0

Jeff Wiseman said: Yea, there were several things about that area, that got rearranged and I had originally start the topic:

However when they started working on a few of the items (they never really covered all of them), other things that had been working started breaking:
https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea...
I believe the Dismissal descriptions were then fixed and broken again later, and then fixed again.
However, this time I think it is a different reason. For Joe's comments it looks like the display of this screen still wants to show the reasons, but the dismissal mechanism in the new merge screens may not be storing the information at all.0 -
Jeff Wiseman said: Joe I just tried this again today May 19 and the results were repeated. From the dismissed helps tab, I selected the "Review Merge" button. Then, from the first page of the merge screens, I selected "Not A Match":
This brought up the Reason Screen where I entered a reason (since the original one was lost) and selected "SAVE":
Then returning to the Dismissed Helps tab, it appears that nothing has changed and there still is no reason showing:
Go to the "Show All" in the change history log, it shows that nothing has been changed since 3 days ago. What happened to the "Not a match" SAVE that I just performed?
