Cannot Search Records while helping others

Heidi Kuosmanen said: I noticed that while I am helping my friend and I want to search records from FamilySearch, helping stops. Then if I want to link those sources what I found to a person who is my friends ancestor, I will do with my own name, not with my friends name. Helping does not work while searching records.
Record Hints do not offer those records which I know exists so I have to find them by search.
Why I cannot do Record Search while helping others?

The concept of helping is not to do the work for the person so why would you want to actually link the record? I would think you would take note of how you found that record and make that part of the teaching plan. Then when you are working with the person have them do the searching and finding and linking so they learn how to do the work.
Help me understand more what you are doing so we can see how we can help you out with this.

Tom Huber said: Blair's point about doing the work is a valid one.
When helping others, the situation may demand that we perform the work, but in those cases, we are not helping them help themselves.
In the situation where a person cannot perform the computer operation themselves, you may be better off actually using their computer with them sitting next to you to watch (if vision is not a problem).
A better solution would be (if they are available) to encourage a relative of the person to do the work under their own (the relatives) credentials. Many younger people are very adept at using a computer.
But if the person is capable of performing the operation themselves, then we should not be doing it for them.0 -
Heidi Kuosmanen said: In this situation this person cannot do the research using computer and has no living close relatives and we are not living in same place . But that person is capable of going to the temple. That is why I am doing it.0

Tom Huber said: There are two aspects involved. The first is that the person cannot use a computer sufficiently well to do research, or that is what you are implying.
The second is that the person can go to the temple. As such, they should be able to minimally use Ordinances Ready, which will chase down persons for them to take to the temple. The problem is that they could come up with some names that really should be researched further and since they aren't able to do research, they could be doing duplicate entries.
Time to get someone who lives close to the person involved. That means finding out what Ward or Branch they live in and getting a local consultant involved. Long distance research can work, but it is not easy as you have found out.0 -
