These two People can NOT be Merged.

When attempt a merge of two Emma's in FS, https://familysearch.org/tree/merge/9... the record shows as "unknown" - Image:
The record LCVM-N4G MAY have to ordinances recorded, as 9XXB-CX3 shows the Sealing to spouse completion ONLY: "Sealing to Spouse, Completed 13 November 2001; Logan Utah Temple; Melville G Gardner; 1844–1914 • LTCB-4ZQ"
This first occurred yesterday and is still the same a few minutes ago. I sent a "Feedback Problem" on the issue yesterday (Case: "These two people can not be merged" (03597727)), but thought I'd try it here also. (Thanks to Robert Kehrer's post https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea... )
If soliciting problems here, it might be nice to add "Problem" to the topic choices of"Idea" and "Praise"

Tom Huber said: First, look at the LCVM-N4G record by itself. It will come up with "No results found."
In other words, I don't know where you came up with that PID, but it does not tie to any record in the system (deleted or otherwise).
Since there is no record for LCVM-N4G, that is the reason why the message...
Always check both records to see which has the more complete information.
Keep in mind that if there the gender is Unknown or opposite the record you are attempting to merge it into, then you should use the following directions, which I was given by support when I changed the gender (I had plenty of evidence that the person had the wrong gender) and then merged it with another record for the same person, but with the correct gender.
"If there are two records, one for each sex, just notify us and ask us to delete the incorrect sex. That way if there were ordinances done for the correct sex, they won't become Not Available, and you can finish the ones that are not done.
"If there is only one record and it's the wrong sex, just create a new record for the correct sex, and ask us to delete the incorrect sex.
"This way, the ordinances, if there are any completed, are not effected, and if there are no ordinances, they can be done without waiting. It also makes the process simpler for those who permanently delete records from the tree to just do it without separating the records, etc. Most patrons aren't aware of this and do exactly what you did because it makes sense. But now you know the preferred way for times when you run into this again, and you will."0 -

It looks like the pid got messed up. The screen shot shows L6VM-N4G but the link you provided showed: LCVM-N4G0 -

Tom Huber said: With Jacob's corrected PID, I took an extended look at the two records (9XXB-CX3 and L6VM-N4G).
I would not merge the two records based upon what I see in each record. In my opinion, there are some discrepancies in L6VM-N4G that have to be resolved -- namely her mother. The L6VM-N4G record lists a different mother than Emma's death certificate! So either she was born to an earlier mother that is not in the FS record, or the death certificate does not match the Emma in the L6VM-N4G record. The other problem is that Emma's birthplace in the death certificate only lists New York as her place of birth. And, it does not list her husband. The informant may be a grandchild or a neighbor, but the two records do not provide enough information to know which is the case.
The second problem is that the 9XXB-CX3 record strongly supports the connection, but it is, at best, only circumstantial. Melville Gardner came from the same area that Emma did, possibly attending schools with her, but we do not know for certain that was the case. It may be a coincidence, which is why I would not merge the two records as they currently sit in FS.
We need more information about L6VM-N4G and Emma's parents. Finding additional support for them moving (with Emma) to Michigan would help a lot. At present she only has census records from New York, so when and why did she (if she did) move to Michigan. Saginaw is a beautiful place, so it is possible that she moved there because of the beauty and fruit (yes, I lived just south of Saginaw for thirteen years).
If you can prove that her parents are the same as shown in the death certificate (which is not possible at this point).
Before going further with this merge, I would definitely fill out L6VM-N4G and Emma's parents' records. You need to know if her father remarried, but if not, then Emma's mother does not match up against the Michigan death certificate and it is time to delete the death certificate as a source for L6VM-N4G.
This points up how important it is to complete as much information (with sources) as possible for at least one record in a merge. I strongly suggest using L6VM-N4G as that record, but because of the discrepancy in the death certificate, I cannot recommend merging the two records at this time without cleaning up L6VM-N4G first.0 -
Tom Huber said: I need to add that it is possible that you might find a newspaper article announcing Emma's upcoming wedding or a wedding announcement that lists Emma's parents. Also, it may be possible that some of the City Directories for Saginaw will help. There are a number of places to look (besides FS) that could help connect the dots with irrefutable evidence that the two records are for the same person, but the discrepancies have to be cleared first.0

Robert Wren said: AHA, thank you, Jacob.
I see now I copied the PID wrong from Ancestry - MY BAD!! The glitch was ME. " L6" vs "LC" DOES make a difference0 -

DougHo said: Update: it looks like Francis' ancestry has got messed up through past merges or something. The one in Yates county NY with three wives and some children such as Emma was born in Germany (Baden or Bavaria or Prussia, not England) and died in Michigan 1895.
Looks like Francis Hood may have had three wives - Mary J (Brown), Mary H (Ellis), and Jennie (Young?) - according to his FindAGrave. The Ellis one is listed in records of two of his sons. Emma's FindAGrave mentioned step-daughter of Jennie. Although we can't trust FindAGrave wording, in this case you can see picture of Francis' stone which lists two wives named Mary, the first one lists death June 1858 (second Mary 1887). Jennie's FindAGrave says died Virginia but brought to be buried near Francis.
Regarding Saginaw, the following seems to mention Emma's half-brother and the third wife but different surname

This thread goes back and forth and it seems the matter may have been resolved, but if I can help simplify anything, Melville Gardner was my father's Great Uncle, and I recall family members who knew Uncle Melville; his brother Uncle Charlie; and his sister, my Great Grandmother very well. I have Melville's pocket watch. He moved to Saginaw to enter the lumber industry and was quite successful manufacturing barrel staves. He only married once, to Emma Hood. We still have the letters that Melville sent to Charlie from Saginaw. The reason he left the Finger Lakes is that his older brother inherited our farm in Dresden, NY.
