Elida Tirey said: By the way, who establishes the "read only" for an individual and verifies that the information is correct for these "read only" people? You know that other family members are related to "the read only" individual and may have information or corrections which would make a difference in the history for that person.

I have noticed multiple ID's established for these "read only" individuals. Perhaps this has happened, because they were denied the opportunity to collaborate on their family findings.

Please provide information on how to update information for the "read only".

    Thanks!

    S. said: yes it is a great idea, many people like them, and are really for sourcing, but you could have a conflict for people you need to make changes for and to the names that are read only, Yes I see Justin's point about how are useless but I also see the need of them being their, for many reasons, and reasons to help prove people.

Totally agree. The best record hint I have ever received and it's for a 'Read Only' record.

    @Dil7worth

Question: Was that for a RECENT 'Hint"?

That would be interesting to know.

As, this 'Post' was originally raised back in September 2016.

As it is now May 2021, almost x5 Years LATER; and, if NOTHING has been done ...

The ONLY thing that I can think of, is that, just maybe, you ARE directly/closely RELATED to the "Ready-Only" individual/person; and, you may have a 'Case' for YOU to request that 'FamilySearch', either, attach the 'Hint' themselves; or, give you access to do so.

Of course, provided that the individual/person is NOT a "Famous" individual/person, there may, not; or no longer, be the the need for that individual/person to be a "Ready-Only'" individual/person.

IF, such is the case; THEN, simply REQUEST that 'FamilySearch' "Remove"/"Lift" the "Ready-Only" status for that individual/person.

I have done that; and, in some cases, the "Ready-Only" (or, "Confidential") status, was "Removed"/"Lifted".

Here is a "knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':

What are read-only records in Family Tree?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/what-are-read-only-records-in-family-tree

    I hope this helps.

The hints are not useless and should be shown. You may not be able to attach them, but you can make a note of them in your person records, reference them in your personal database if you use one, and use them to find more information about the person.

If you find they clutter up your Recommended tasks list, just mark them as Ignore to take them off that list:
