Possible Duplicate Link on Person Page

Cathy Anderegg said: Seemingly good idea. However, like most functions of this kind, a live person, and not a computer needs to make these decisions. Folks are sometimes known by different names at different times in their lives. And Royalty or older records before 1600, this is really the case.0

Ron Tanner said: The issue is that if we did the search each time the page came up (which we did originally), it significantly slowed the painting of the page. We decided to not automatically search because we wanted the performance of the person page to be more acceptable. We are discussing ways to provide this without significant performance penalties.0

@Corky Cook your question can go in the Q and A category, under Family Tree there. Perhaps a moderator will come along and split off your question from this old discussion.

Family search has some many duplicates that they need to really clean them up and the whole tree. This issues has made so many people really mad. all I can say is good luck.

FYI
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
I would suggest that ...
▬ It is NOT, the responsibility of 'FamilySearch', to clean-up the "Duplicates"; and, the whole 'Tree'.
▬ That is what WE, the Users/Patrons, are DOING, trying to REDUCE the "Duplication", fixing the 'Tree'.
ie. 'sorting the wheat from the chaff'.
And, what a 'Task' that is ...
[ Literally, a mammoth task ... ]
As you say, good luck, on that ...
Part of the problem/issue is that, even though WE are very slowly, reducing the number of "Duplicates", there are OTHER Users/Patrons, that "Create" even MORE "Duplicates", each and every day, admittedly, certainly not, as many as there were originally in "New.FamilySearch" (the forerunner); and, later, in the beginning of "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'; but, they are still being created, even today.
Just my thoughts.

True to your Thoughts, My big question is what can family search do to stop them. one idea would be set up the system so when import your gedcom you go directly to search for duplicates, and Make people look for them, And after they find them, Make people look to see if they are a match. Another idea would make A group check all gedcoms before they are uploaded, Wikitree kind of does this. one reason for the duplicates, is because their is many source that need merged, and trees, if they were to have members clean up the trees already on familysearch, and combine them into one. (IGI, Pedigree resource file) . It would help, because Many people might have info that is not Imported to the tree, but is on Familysearch site. Another suggestion is Limit the Number of People that can be import, unless the File is sourced, Wikitree already does this. Their could be other ideas, but here is mine.

Short Answer: NOTHING.
As, that is the 'nature' of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; otherwise, there is a risk, of stifling participation, altogether.
I, for one, would NOT want ANY of such ...
Now ...
As to, GEDCOM Files ...
That is VERY easy ...
Better still ...
I really wish 'FamilySearch' would ...
Just STOP allowing the "Upload" of GEDCOM Files into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' altogether ...
There is just NO need to "Upload" of GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' ...
Under ANY circumstance ... even if one's "Ancestral" Lines are NOT already in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
