I think it is too complicated for those with limited experience.

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
The "Beta" (ie."Test") Environment is NOT too complicated.
As, the "Beta" (ie."Test") Environment, functions EXACTLY the SAME; as, the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment; EXCEPT, with SOME new features/functionality, soon to be moved over to the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment.
Better to "Test" (first) in the "Beta" (ie."Test") Environment, rather than make a "Mess" of things in the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment.
Either 'Environment', would be complicated, for those Users/Patrons, with limited experience.
The 'Environment' makes NO difference.
But ...
That Said ...
Again, it would be MUCH better, for inexperienced Users/Patrons, to "Test" [ie. and, play around with] (first) in the "Beta" (ie."Test") Environment, rather than to make a "Mess" of things, in the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment.
Just my thoughts.

First of all, I greatly appreciate this facility. Also, I applaud the efforts to further improve it, and would like to make it even better.
I have a few comments on the beta version:
The Feedback button is not working 😊
Open this link
There is a "feedback" on the middle left edge. Press it! There is no action. I have tried Edge and Chrome.
The screen refresh (PF5) returns to the beginning of the book. Before we would have returned to the page last seen. The page number has been remembered, so it would be good to navigate to that page on refresh. Actually, this situation happens when we leave the screen for a while, so we have to refresh. Adding a button to refresh/reload the current page could help here.
Navigation within the book (“View the image group”):
There is an option to see either book by itself (the original book which brought us there) or the whole book. An option to select a book within the group is missing. At the same time it would greatly help if on the list of the books within the group (once the list is displayed) we could see a part of the title.
Page reload does not remember the choice to see the book or the group. We have to select “view image group” to return to the previous view.
There should be an option to easily copy the page’s link, so we could copy the link into MyHeritage quotes, or quote it in the forum. We can get the link deep within the metadata, but it is cumbersome. (“Attach to tree” , “View image metadata”…. Scroll down, extract the link form the “Citation”)
Scrolling through the page numbers used to have a button to scroll left or right by one page. That is now removed to the each side of the picture. It would be maybe a good idea to keep both options. Two comments: the new buttons should be semi-transparent. Also add an option to scroll next to the numbers as it used to be. You could also add a “Fast Forward”/”Rewind” buttons there, scrolling by ten pages on each press?
Scrolling the pages by pressing the button left or right returns the image resized to the full image. Changing the page number preserves the location on image and a zoom factor. That is inconsistent and I refer for scrolling to keep the formatting.
A button for scrolling through the pages listed on the bottom is missing. Before there was a semi-transparent arrow to scroll the group of pages left or right. The functionality is still there, Possibly returning a semi-transparent button would assist unskilled users. Maybe an option to scroll through the list on the bottom by dragging the images with the mouse left or right would be nice as well.
Scrolling to the next page does not remember the page position as it used to. Clicking the left/right button resizes to the full image view. However, selecting the next page on the bottom list of pages will preserve the zoom and image position.
Hovering over the images on the bottom does not reveal the page number, as it used to.
Visibility: It could be a good idea to add an option to see the actual image on the whole area of the window, or even the full screen. This would present the actual image across the whole area, including the top menu, the book title, and the image group data, leaving only the navigation buttons visible. While we’re reading the documents, we have to zoom in most of the time, so more screen area would greatly improve the readability of the documents. A full screen view of the
documents could be the best option (with pressing the Escape to return to the normal view). (something like YouTube)
Cheers,
Zoran
