roots.help said: There is a Reference Guide article made with the steps outlined to add a photo to Family Tree. Unfortunately, with the new CRM tool FamilySearch has decided to use for finding articles in the Help Center (Salesforce), the Reference Guide articles did not "port over" successfully from the previous CRM tool FamilySearch was using a few months ago. Because of this, all Family Tree users cannot view these very important and informative articles. We have asked that this be made a high priority, but it has not made it to the top of the list with the Salesforce engineers. Although outdated, the FamilySearch Family Tree Reference guide can be found at http://broadcast.lds.org/eLearning/fh.... On page 91 you can view the steps to add a photo, story or document to Family Tree.0

1 Locate the FT ID of the person in the picture
2 Upload the picture to FS using the memories section (this process is independent of adding/changing the portrait)
3 Locate the picture containing the portrait and open in the viewer
4 Select the tagging option to create a tag for the portrait you want. (tagging is its own process and can involve a number of distinct steps and variations depending on if its a photo/doc or story)
5 Link the tag to the Tree by using the ID from step 1
6 Go to the people page in the memories section and find the tag and double click it.
7 Once the people page is open you can change the default portrait for the pedigree by clicking on the portrait area. You can set it back to no picture by selecting the ?
Save the change and in a few moments the tree will update the picture.
The essential steps of the process are the upload, tag and link the tag. Each of thse have their own small set of steps.
If you upload a photo using the person page in FT it autotags the photo with the person, This can be problematic sometimes as the tag covers the whole photo and editing it in the view is a pain. I have not tested if it has issues if you have already created a tag.
Once you get each process down it will become much easier.
Uploading can be achieved by a simple drag and drop using the photos section of memories
Tagging can be tricky if photos are small ( I suggest you edit the photo by pasting it onto a bigger background using Windows Paint or similar photo editing software)
Also using a good/consistent naming convention for the tags is good because your tag list may begin to include common names who are different people. I suggest adding a birth year to the name of the tag.
Linking the Tag to the tree is quite straight forward if you copy and paste the ID into the dialog box.
the changing of the default portrait or the name of a tag is quite simple from the "People" section of Memories.0 -

Portraits are wonderful ways to visualize your family members in Family Tree.
Adding a portrait photo is the same for living & deceased persons.
I prefer to upload the photo to my memories gallery before using it as a portrait photo, but that’s a personal preference.

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Providing you are referring, to a "Portrait", on a "Living" individual/person, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', residing in your "Private Spaces"; and, ONLY 'seen' and accessed by you ...
To start with ...
Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch':
Can I add memories about my living relatives to Family Tree?
Who can view the items uploaded in Memories for living people?
https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/who-can-view-the-items-uploaded-to-memories
How do I add or change a portrait photo in Family Tree?
How do I choose my FamilySearch portrait photo? Who can see it?
How do I make a memory private?
https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-make-a-memory-private
Go through those "Knowledge Articles".
IF, they do not help/assist you; and/or, you have any further 'Questions'; THEN, do not hesitate to ask.
As an aside ...
By the way ...
You can ask/submit/post your own 'Question', regarding "Memories", in the "Q and A" Section, under the 'Category' of "Memories", rather than in this "ideas" (ie. 'Feedback') Section.
"Q and A" Section
'Category' = "Memories"
Home > Help Center Categories > Memories
Memories

I hope this helps. somewhat.
