Sandra June Kennedy said: Have you reviewed the "What's New" section of FamilySearch.org? It has tutorials that show you how to use the new search filters. These filters can lead you to thousands of new records and by narrowing down to the precise date and place you can locate your ancestor and have sources to back it up.

Nothing new under the sun, eh?

I'm trying to remember how many revisions (and accompanying outcries) the search results page has undergone in the decade since the originating post of this discussion.

this new version IS Awful! please go back to the previous version. I have found records on ancestors for the past 10 years and now they are gone!! i put in names and go through record pages and they're just gone. Remember, if it's not broke, don't go fixin' it!!!!!

someone suggested going to such and such a place and do this and do that and you'll find records. Well, i was finding LOTS of records previous to this.

This new Search is not working for me. In the old version I could quicky scan results and then edit on the left side to focus. This new version has a box at the Lower Left corner that is mostly hidden on my laptop. I looked at the video. Learning how it works doesn't fix that it is a difficult to use interface. Fortunately, I could do this search at another site.

What box do you have in the left lower corner? All I see there is the one that changes how many results to see per page but that doesn't have anything to do with searching. What video did you watch? I'd be interested in checking it out. How has moving the editing of the search from the left to the right made it more difficult to focus the search results?

Adding my agreement with other commenters. The new search is cumbersome, requires clicking boxes that pop out from the side, etc. Way too many steps to enter a search - and the results are not what's expected.

I started using FamilySearch because the search feature was better than Ancestry's. Now I'm back to using Ancestry for searches.

I'm a software developer and not adverse to change. This change, however, makes using the search feature more - not less - cumbersome.

Actually, I did. I'm pretty methodical when it comes to genealogy research.

I hope the software developers will be able to listen to the users on this thread without getting defensive. I can see that tons of hours were poured into this new build, and I really, really appreciate all their effort. Unfortunately, the new UI is far less efficient for the end user. And, as noted above, the search engine now appears to be less effective.

Here's a rough comparison of efficiency: Familysearch has roughly doubled the time it takes me to get the same results as before. Given the limited amount of time I have to devote to genealogy, I can't afford to make half as much progress. I left Geni.com and started doing most of my research on Familysearch because Familysearch was more efficient, but now I'm being forced back to Geni. In fact, I was getting ready to migrate my GEDCOM files from Geni to Familysearch -- with up to 14 generations of information, which would have filled in some big holes for the Familysearch research community -- but the new Familysearch UI is so inefficient I can no longer justify making that move.

Yes, I feel bad that I'm not going to give back to the other users on Familysearch, from whom I have benefited so much, and who could have benefited from my careful work. But again, given my limited spare time, I just can't justify spending any more time here; my primary responsibility is getting my own family's genealogy done. It's just really astonishing how broken Familysearch is.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You've managed to make the GUI to the FS search feature to be as bad, if not worse, than the My Reservations system!

The new look is definitely terrible. Makes it so much more difficult to execute a search.
