Work being deleted

This is from an email I got from an indexer in my stake. Is it common for her work to be deleted when she leaves in the middle of a project?

"I will need to work on my saving batches without deleting all of the data. It happened once when I was working on a large batch of difficult to read land claims,  so I am paranoid about stopping mid project."

This has come up in the forums a few times, though I've never experienced it myself. There is another post about it, which you can reach by clicking the date on the quote below.
