Do you have the Batch number? If you haven't tried contacting Support, I could forward your concern to be reviewed.

My guest had indexed over 600 names on this batch. Then turned off her computer last night. When she came back to continue this morning, she only showed 85 names having been done. The batch is not due until Feb. 22. Is there any way she is able to retrieve her names completed, and if not, is there any way she can see if someone else had the batch and the names have been given to someone else. I'm quite positive that she is not able to do either of these things, and that it will have to be redone, but told her I would ask some colleagues.

I have the same question. I indexed most of the batch from my home computer over the course of several days. Then went to a FamilySearch Center last night and indexed another column. That column (about 100 unique names) has disappeared. Tried hard refresh, logging out/in, etc.

This sort of problem could be a couple of things. Either you hit the Due Date (which is midnight GMT on that day) or FS is hiccuping...again. I'm tagging @Maile L

As a daily indexer, to find such glitches as the inability to submit over 700 entries might be rare, it’s still a very frustrating experience. Two hours of work along with the over 700 entries are lost, (save it be someone else will download the exact page I just indexed albeit no info will surface)!

@DebPlumbersWife When you say gone, is everything now blank or is the batch missing from your projects list?

Maile, every line, after quality check, were instantly blank! It had never happened before! No matter the attempts I made to gain back my work, nothing worked!

I am not sure if I can recover the batch number! I’ll do my utmost best to do so! Thank you for your assistance! Truly, I appreciate you!

I indexed 125 names this evening. I signed out, and when i signed back in, it showed I was on record #5... yes, #5. 120 names were lost. It happend last night as well. The entire page was entered, I reviewed it, and then it said I only had 75 entries to submit. Thoughts?

It sounds like it's a hiccup on FS' end. I'm going to tag @Maile L on this.

I had the same experience last night about 10pm 3/20/24. I've reviewed about 12,800 records this month and last night noticed that the software kept putting up the message "do you still want to continue?"or some such... I clicked yes I think 3 times, as I was closing in on completion (4-6 names left) of an almost illegible 300 name batch from Providence- sorry I didn't write down the batch. I then had another glitch, where squares come up on the edges of the document, distorting or completely covering a part of the image. (this has happened to me multiple times before and I could always hit the back button, jumping out of the batch and back to the screen that shows your current batch)... only this time the batch just totally disappeared! I didn't submit it nor return it. I had been working on it for around 6 or 7 hours, as it was very difficult to decipher (a very light exposure that blanked out many letters off and on). As the batch is alphabetically listed, I was able to decipher much of it, adding maybe 50 or 60 correction/additions to the indexer's product. I used the "Forebears" software to find the names that fit - there were a LOT of Wee... and Wei.... last names. Any idea what happened to it? I'm flumoxed!

The other night about 10pm (3/20/24) I was reviewing city directories. I've reviewed about 12,800 records this month and that night noticed that the software kept putting up the message "do you still want to continue?"or some such... I clicked yes I think 3 times, as I was closing in on completion (4-6 names left) of an almost illegible 300 name batch from Providence- sorry I didn't write down the batch. I then had another glitch, where squares come up on the edges of the document, distorting or completely blocking/covering a part of the image. (this has happened to me multiple times before and I could always hit the back button, jumping out of the batch and back to the screen that shows your current batch. I'd then re-enter the batch and the photo would be complete again)... only this time the batch just totally disappeared! I didn't submit it nor return it. I had been working on it for a couple of days, around 6-8 hours, as it was very difficult to decipher (a very light exposure that blanked out many letters off and on). As the batch is alphabetically listed, I was able to decipher much of it, adding maybe 50 or 60 correction/additions (I didn't count) to the indexer's product. I used the "Forebears" software to find the names that exist/spelling and fit with the location which was Providence, RI - there were a LOT of Wee... and Wei.... last names. Any idea what happened to it? I'm flumoxed!

I also had a similar experience with a very, very poor exposure Mortality Schedule that took hours to transcribe. When I neared the end of the list the 'Time Out' message appeared and I clicked to continue but the program closed the batch anyway and put me back at my home screen. When I opened the batch again it was as if no one ever opened the file and all of my edits/entries gone!
I am seeing more people post about losing their work. There seems to be a real bad bug in the Time Out and/or closure process of the app. I have not found a way to get this fixed.

When indexing, we type what we see in the appropriate boxes. We do NOT use Forbears or any other outside source to find "names that fit". When we have difficulties reading cursive or poor handwriting, we use helps within the same document, such as an e that looks like an i. Also, please be aware that the ff is often a double ss, as in Douglaff is actually Douglass. If the name is unreadable, use the toolbar to mark it as unreadable. Part of the reviewer job is to take a second look and make corrections if possible. When a name or date is missing, use <blank> on the toolbar so that all required boxes are filled.

I had typed 179 names on City Directories out of a batch of 250. I had to stop and continue the next day. I didn't sign out and left the tab open but the next day I had lost names down to 122. This has happened before also . Help. bn

Hi. We need specifics so we can try to figure why some indexing data is gone. It appears that some of you have had input disappear in the US Directories project. What other projects have you seen this on? Are you indexing on a phone or a computer? Is your system and browser up to date? Do you see any consistent steps that produce the problem? Please share steps you took. Perhaps we can find a pattern.

I have written several times about the issue with the Indexing section of FamilySearch. I am unable to "save" a page, and once again (this is the fourth time), my work disappeared after a 15-minute break. It is frustrating to spend so much time on something only to have it disappear. I have asked for help before, but the response is usually delayed by two weeks. I would like to see a fix for this recurring problem. I have noticed that I am not the only one who has encountered this issue. Comments like "it might be a glitch with your computer" are not helpful, as the same problem has occurred on different computers. I believe that the developers need to address this issue as soon as possible. I have been an indexer for a long time, even since the days of microfiche monitors. So, I am not a beginner!

Have you tried phoning them?

One detail that may be helpful to the programmers or engineers (if you can figure out how to contact them): were you working on the same project or type of project each time it happened? How many entries disappeared? (Even a ballpark estimate, like "two digits" or "500-something", may be useful.)
It is my vague recollection that the other reports of similar problems (which I cannot get the Community software to cough up right now, naturally) all mentioned the city directories project(s), which generally have several hundred entries per image. This makes me wonder if it's a size issue: perhaps the web indexing software doesn't work well with large datasets? (Yes, I know, that's no help.)

it’s rather sad to read so many of the same complaint without assistance from anyone from the design team for this poorly executed program. As indexers, there really should be a more rapid response and of course, actual fixes. I’ve never looked forwarded to AI taking over indexing until losing more than a total of 8 hours spent on it. It’s getting very discouraging!

This is a Community mostly made up of users of the website. The developers may visit and see comments/reports, but they rarely interact except in the dedicated groups for a few new projects.
I can't say I blame them much. Not sure I'd raise my hand to say "I'm one of the developers of this project" only to have rotten tomatoes thrown.

I asked on 26 March for specifics for each instance. I need to know the project title (and batch if possible), what browser and is it up to date, what were you doing when this occurred (i.e. I took a break and when I came back...), etc. The more details we have, the easier it is to see if there is a pattern and hopefully find a fix.

Up until recently, I had not copied and pasted the batch information. Now I do so, not that it helps because it takes, (mostly), days to receive a response from the website assistance. With that stated, it is impossible to provide the the exact project information without having copied and pasted (in Word), the batch information.
A) My browser is up to date (the computer is new), B) upon seeking assistance, I include the date of the batch I "lost" and what I was doing up until the problem occurred. I had completed indexing over 400 entries from the US - City Directories, 1902-1935 (6 entries per name: Surname, Prefix, Given Name, Spouse's Surname, Spouse's Prefix, Spouse's Given Name), equaling over 2,400 entries, (let alone the 3.5 hours invested). C) Arriving at the point of submitting my work, I selected Next-Quality Check but after approximately 30 seconds, the entire page went black. I hesitated to select Submit Batch from the drop-down prompts but thought in doing so, I could recover my work. Nothing helped and all of my work was lost AGAIN.
I think the developers or website caretakers should check into this section of FamilySearch daily answer questions and be available to assist indexers. This is voluntary work, but gaining a desire to continue Indexing, one should not be met with so many disappointing experiences. I believe our Savior recognizes the time spent gathering Israel, as we are trying to do via Indexing. It would be much appreciated if those called to serve in assisting the Indexers would do so regularly.
