“Ignore All” record hints
- Situation: Sometimes when presented with record hints on the FS home page, the list of hints for a single person is quite long. If this ancestor is of little interest to me or if I feel I don’t have the expertise to evaluate certain records (e.g., records from another country that are several hundred years old), it can be tedious to click “ignore” for multiple hints.
- Need: A simple “ignore all” button. This would apply to only the hints for one PID.
- Outcome and Benefit: This would simplify the process of skipping multiple record hints.

If you are not comfortable processing the hints, just leave them. There is no rule that any of us have to clear a list of hints. The hints may be valid for the family and valuable to another user researching that family. Ignoring them, when they are valid, gives bad instructions to the hinting system.

Echoing the above good counsel. While there is no requirement that all hints be cleared, at least looking at them potentially can give additional information regarding one's line. Also, if unattached source documents are floating around, there is a risk that someone will create new records based solely on that source, thus creating duplicates. In my case, where there is insufficient information to definitively say yes or no to old German hints from several hundred years ago, I just leave them because there is the possibility that there could be a 10th or 15th cousin, many times removed, who might be trying to gather her or his family. Otherwise, I am the only one who will see information regarding my direct lines back at least 6 generations.

I’m not referring to dismissing hints on an ancestor’s detail page; I’m talking about ignoring hints on my own home page, being the page reached by clicking on the FamilySearch tree icon at the upper left of most other pages on FS. Obviously, one wouldn’t wish to dismiss hints that others might be able to resolve.

Then why not just close the hints panel on your home page?
