New Memories changes

Yessss-I am having the same issues. It is so frustrating. Is there a way to revert back to the old view?

I absolutely agree. This is way more difficult than it used to be. I have been trying to add the image from baptism registries, but the box covers the names, so I can't get the spellings without also opening it in another screen! We need to be able to
1) move the input box around the screen,
2) Tag the primary person first instead of after we input someone else's tag, and
3) once again be able to manipulate the size of the object we are viewing.
Please correct this. Also, there is no feedback button available. The only one I see is on the home page, and it doesn't work.

could you please forward my feedback to those who may care. I can't find the feed back tab on the memories. The new information on the memories seems to be alittle cumbersome compared to the old one. If you did not submit the picture, you should still be able to add information to that picture. like a title place and date of the picture. I can get the tags to add, but you can't change an incorrect tag. I don't really like this change.
Thank you. Still don't like it., but I'll learn to deal with it. Thanks for the info

We can no longer click on a Memory attached the new way and add it as the Photo on the individual. Also We no longer can see the string at the top giving the Album we are in. With that string it made it so easy to just go back to the Album and not have to go clear out of Memories and back in.
Also I cannot find a way to edit a description I entered before the change.

@Cherie Gardner Rawlings said "Also I cannot find a way to edit a description I entered before the change."
Click the Edit button at the top right of the memory view and then you can edit the description.
When you have made the edits, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page.

What is being done about reverting the source tagging process to what it was before this maddening situation today, where additional pop-up panels force another layer of clicking just to get the proper source to support profile input data? The older programmer knew best how to do it, probably because he/she was actually a user. Whoever came up with this "bright idea" to force more clicks is working against the contributors to this system, making it more difficult instead of easier. Please find the old guy and bring him back to teach the young whipper-snapper a thing or two!!!

FS Memories seems to be going through some significant changes
especially as to how you person tag an item.
There for awhile on my two computers - one computer had the old formatg and one had the new format. Is there any way to temporarily stick with the old format - while bugs and flaws get worked out with the new format?
Memories Person Tagging seems to be totally broke.
Has anyomne reported this to the engineers?

Hi, FamilySearch developers, fellow software engineer here.
I've debugged the slowness that several folks are experiencing, including myself. Good news is it has an easy fix!
Power users who have added hundreds or thousands of tagged memories are running into a significant slowdown using the new memories UI. The problem is that the tag a person UI retrieves and lists all the names that a user has ever tagged. So for me and other power users, the people list may have thousands of entries. This slows down the initial appearance of the UI after clicking, and also slows down changing the selection rectangle.
The solution is to limit the number of names returned by the initial blank search query to a reasonably small number (maybe at most the 20 most recently used, something like that).
You can test that this will fix the problem, just by typing a search query into the person tag UI. That will limit the number of names displayed in the list, and suddenly dragging around the rectangle becomes much faster.
Otherwise, I can see how the new UI fits better with the general UI overhaul and translates better to iPad/mobile. Thank you for all you do, I use FamilySearch daily and love to see improvements.
Hoping my comment gets forwarded to developers since this is an easy fix!

Bug report: Cannot tag new people in Memories UI
I cannot tag new people in the new Memories UI. I can tag people that I have tagged previously in the old UI. My guess is that this is because I have tagged so many people over the years, and the new UI is pulling all of them every time. As shown in this screenshot, the "+ Add New" button is simply greyed out.
In the old UI, typing in the name of the new person to tag would show the Add New button as well. But in the new Memories UI it doesn't show when searching. Example:

The new memories is not working. It freezes every time I try to tag a person on a photo or in an obituary. As a missionary doing this kind of work for my mission it has been super frustrating. It eventually may allow me to tag people but takes 10 times longer. So frustrating
We were allowed to not use the new source linker. Please give us the option to do that with the memories. Right now it is a total mess.

I started writing a story attached to a photo in Memories. The last time I wrote was 3 weeks ago. I tried to add to the story today. I could type all I wanted, then hit Submit. When I came back to review it all the new/added text was gone. A lot of wasted time. Tried tech Support... gave up after 30 min on Hold.

There is definitely something wrong. I've been sitting here waiting for each tag I'm trying to put on and we just sit here. So frustrating. I've also had random people attached to a photo when I am trying to tag someone. I think there are so many problems they just need to go back to the old memories. It at least worked.

The "Memory" section changed right in the middle of my work on Friday afternoon. Now it takes 5-10 minutes to add any memory to ONE person, instead of 10 seconds with the old format. Why was this changed? Results will be that people will shift over to Ancestry or just stop trying to add family group photos or obituaries if it takes them an hour for each Memory.

The new design that tags the memories fails to meet our needs. It took me 30 minutes to tag 6 names on the same memory (an obituary). Talk about frustrating. My screen displayed the opportunity to go back to the previous method of tagging, however when I chose to do that it failed to go back.

I had the same experience as DavidFord471010, I was right in the middle of uploading two photos when familysearch switched over to the new Memories capability. Seems like a strange "transition plan" with no notification or warning. I am having similar problems performing routine functions (adding titles, tagging individuals, etc) as others have expressed. Just my two cents.

Another symptom that is likely related to the above problem, is the inability now to edit a story that was previously submitted. A case in point is: Peter Pieters Jelleme Male 1 November 1852 – 1915 G3QT-SJN. A story was submitted 10 April 2024, and now we can no longer edit that story.

I have posted thousands of pics and texts on my account and this new feature is a total failure. The texts you put at the top of the picture does not leave enough space to put in the texts info that the patron wants to put in. The other format had enough space. Next when I tried to highlight the texts in a news article I could not get it to the size of the name and it was extremely delayed in time response. It would pick a size of the highlighted area some place in the article. I could not make the highlighted box bigger or smaller. I have not tried the pictures yet but the texts highlighted areas are terrible. You did not do a favor for your patrons with this new update in Memories. Go back the way before. By the way when you did get a highlighted area and you try to put the person's name in to identify them in the box provided , you need to have the box able to move over the screen , I mean it is always on the left hand side of the screen and does not move and covers the info that you are trying to identify. As a family history consultant this is a terrible upgrade in memories. The other way was simple . I can not put everything into words properly and I am technically challenged, but I am 72 and know what the heck I am doing in the Memories program and l this is "crap". Sorry for the comment, but I left it because I am very frustrated with the new program.

Thank you for reporting your bug! We have a fix for what you were seeing there, where the image itself never loaded. That was happening with all our smaller images. You should be able to see this fix very soon.

The Family Bible Preservation Project Team (heavily dependent on Person Tagging Memories)
Has identified no less than 10 significant problems with the most recent code change.
They are discussed in this document: [removed]
or this link: [removed]
Please pass that link on to the Engineers.
Thanks
BTW - I Have had more than one person tell me links like the above dont always work.
I think it depends on certain facors related to the configuration settings of the user profile.
(so yet another issue) I dont know specifics yet.1 -
@Dennis J Yancey I'm afraid your link gives me 'Well, this is unexpected …' (i.e. 404). (Maybe because I am not a LDS or FS staff member, just an interested external user?)

@MandyShaw1 Both of Dennis' URLs work for me. I'm not staff or LDS.

Mandy said: "I'm afraid your link give me 'Well, this is unexpected…' (i.e. 404)."
well then maybe we have 11 identified problems
Try this link: [removed due to code violation]Áine said: "Both of Dennis' URLs work for me."
I think it depends from where you are clicking the link
I do notice that for memories items the URL is now totally different than what it used to be.0 -
Then I thought, maybe I need to enable Family Group Trees - and now they work! Thanks.

@MandyShaw1, That sure seems to be a bug!!
can you try disabling Family Group Trees once more - and see if that indeed makes it break again.0 -
Well, I tried, but despite having created an empty Group, when I go onto the Labs list it doesn't seem to know I have enabled early access to Family Tree Groups, so I can't disable it again! I tried ending my browser and signing off and on again, but still 'half in half out'. I'll have another try tomorrow to see if it has got reset somehow. Otherwise, maybe this is another bug.
