Marketing: Ancestor Emails are NOT my Actual Ancestors
Today I received an email from Family Search stating "Your 2G-Grandmother's anniversary is in October." I wondered why it would be an anniversary just for her and not her husband as well.
Then, I followed the link and saw why. She isn't related to me!
The lady in question was the mother of my Great Grandfather's SECOND wife, but my Great Grandmother was his FIRST wife. My Great Grandfather's second wife could certainly be called my Step-Great-Grandmother given that she was married to him, but I have ZERO relationship with her parents. No one gains another entire branch of ancestors just because one of their parents marries again.
This information is entered in the Family Search tree correctly. It shows my Great Grandfather, his two wives, and my grandfather (his son) correctly listed as the son of the first wife and the step-son of the second wife. I have the same info also listed in my copy of Family Tree Maker, and it correctly lists the relationships, so why can't your marketing computer be programmed to do this correctly as well??
As it stands, it's certainly misleading to send me these emails...or to put a finer point on it, it's just plain wrong.
