Blank Screen in safari - Bug Report
I am using
safari Version 13.1.2 (13609.3.5.1.5)
MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6
This behavior started a while ago and I hoped it would get fixed. I have been using other browsers to get around it.
I go to any family search profile page and I get a blank screen.
for instance:
"h t tps://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/GVDV-GHZ"
(sorry you will have to remove the Quotes and spaces in h t tps that I had to put in to get around the URL removal feature in this message.)
I open up the the web inspector window and the following error appears:
[Error] TypeError: window.matchMedia("(prefers-color-scheme: dark)").addEventListener is not a function. (In 'window.matchMedia("(prefers-color-scheme: dark)").addEventListener("change",e)', 'window.matchMedia("(prefers-color-scheme: dark)").addEventListener' is undefined)

Several other people have reported this behavior. I doubt it will ever be fixed because Family Search only supports Safari 15 and 16. (See: https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/which-internet-browsers-are-compatible )
If you cannot upgrade to Safari 15.0 or higher because your machine is too old, then you are stuck using Firefox or Chrome until you update your hardware.
(By the way, you can post links in posts here just fine, such as https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/GVDV-GHZ as long as they are not at the start of a paragraph. If you want them set off by themselves, just start the paragraph with some single character and a space such as:
With all the advances in browser technology and all the plugging of security holes over the years, I suspect Apple probably wouldn't recommend using Safari 13.1.2, either.
