Help Me instead of sending me somewhere else
I just got off the phone with a family history consultant. I had an 11:55 appointment. The volunteer who "helped" me didn't. Instead of walking me through how to download a GEDCOM file I have from My Heritage into my Family Search account, he told me to go to the nearest Family History Center. I am 77 years old. I live in suburban Chicago. There is snow on the ground, it is snowing now, and tomorrow we are supposed to get 5 more inches. So now I need to drive 20 miles to the Naperville Family History Center. For now, I just won't try to make that trip and I just won't download the 7,000+ names that are sitting in the GEDCOM file. I am a convert to the church--50 years ago. In all those 50 years I don't ever being more discouraged, sad, and feeling like I must not matter very much if a Church Volunteer can't be bothered to provide a simple service.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. There are many helpful and knowledgeable folks here in the Community. I'm sure someone can help you get it sorted.
I'm not a member of the Church, so I don't have the exact same connection between my MyHeritage account/tree and my FamilySearch Account. I just wanted to give you a word of encouragement until someone with the necessary expertise comes along to help. Just so you are aware - most of us in this Community are just users of the websites and the various tools. Most of us are not FS employees, although a few are.
Chin up - and please don't be discouraged. I'm 74, and it's snowing hard here in Fort Wayne, too.

I'm a volunteer here at one of the FamilySearch Centers, so I do apologize that they keep sending you all over the place. Let me give you a few steps on what works best.
First, go into your tree that you want to upload. In the tree, where you see your family Pedigree Chart, you'll want to click on the gear.
Once done, go to "More Actions" (at the bottom of the scrolling page) and click "Manage All Trees." It'll have a gear by it.
There'll be a button on the new page that states, "Export to Gedcom" next to the name of your tree.
You can then go into FamilySearch, into Genealogies (Search > Genealogies), where on the page, you'll be able to upload your Gedcom.

@ColemanMauriceEugene1, while you're waiting, you might start checking to see how many of your 7,000 GEDCOM individuals are already in FamilySearch's Family Tree. Uploading a GEDCOM might be unnecessary. It may in fact be unhelpful...

Hi! I'm sorry you feel discouraged.
Please though, don't download your 7.000 names in a GED com file. It will result in some help, but also lots of hurt as there will be thousands of duplicates produced which will then take thousands of hours to merge and correct. . . not that I want to discourage you, but I'll admit that I've cried tears of frustration and disappointment when someone just uploads a GED com file without first checking to see if those individuals are already in the system. Yes it will take you time, but it will cost far more time to clean up the duplicates.
Best,
Heather!

My understanding is that you cannot upload a GEDCOM direct to the main FamilySearch world-wide tree. As the instructions above give, you can only upload a GEDCOM to the genealogies section of the FamilySearch website. This is a collection of many individual family trees (like Ancestry and MyHeritage)
If I understand this correctly, there is no interaction between the main tree and these individual trees. Am I correct in this thinking?

It is not a direct upload from Gedcom to Family Tree, but when you upload your Gedcom to the Genealogies section you can then compare each individual to what may (or may not) be existing in Family Tree. This Compare function is only so good at finding all the records in Family Tree that actually match the records in your Gedcom.

Thanks to everyone who has tried to help me. I suffer from depression (I inherited it from my Father). Right now, I am so discouraged that I have stopped doing anything related to my Family History. Just let me have some time to work through my angst and reset, and I may take it up again and I may not. May the Lord bless you for your efforts.
