Proactive Negative FSID or FACT assertions
FSID:= FamilySearch Identifier(ID)/Profile ID
Genealogical Proof Standard includes research that excludes other persons (mainly elements 1 & 4) - usually of similar name and in same time/location - that are NOT your relation (thus the above titled 'negative assertions').
There need to be feature(s) developed - which proactively - besides possible Record Hint generation (in other words prior/alternate to receiving Record Hints) - allowing exclusion of existing or possible future profiles - from possible mixup/merging. If I have gone to the trouble of Researching and excluding people (of similar name and location/timeframe) then that is valuable - and should have a method, profile feature or artifact for assertive inclusion in the Tree. Why should I need to wait for Record Hint to exclude other profiles? I can use 'Similar Person' Tool to possibly locate such persons to exclude -
or perhaps I had a previous Record Hint that was merged incorrectly and now I want to make sure to exclude them from possibly being hinted again.
There is no Profile FACT or other feature (other than perhaps the newer Alert Note feature) - of which I am aware - that can blanket assert that a profile or perhaps more commonly - a marriage - excludes any/all other potentially Record Hinted profiles/couple relationships - or for that matter child births. There needs to be this type of feature to assert/maintain profiles' integrity. I would further argue that 'My Tree' contains such assertions - but not in a manner transferable to Family Tree - because there exists no Standard GEDCOM artifact for such (again of which I am aware).
For example, I will use a previous thread Idea that I have mentioned. If a couple had 10 children but NO MORE CHILDREN. There needs to be the capability of asserting this in either Marriage Facts, Profile Facts of both the husband and the wife - or duplication of such facts in both places.
If such feature(s) were available - such assertions could impede careless/malicious profile edits/merges - such that - the person attempting such edits/merges would have to produce contrary evidence or disprove all previous related assertions - rather than just allow such edits/merges. Put the onus on the person attempting to make such profile altering assertions.
I do not believe Alert Note inclusion of such exclusions/statements can effectively do what this Idea would require. The Alert Note does not prevent potential merges or other edits which effectively change profile vital identity. ... ...
This brings up the Alert Note Ideas - of tagging certain Facts/Sources into the Alert Note, and allowing the ubiquitous thumbs up/down voting/tallies on such Alert Notes. However, the fact that an Alert Note can be edited/deleted by someone other than the originator - rather than only allowing appending by other contributors - is problematic of the whole Alert Note scheme. If anyone can delete the very Note - that is so vital/important as to warrant a red alert banner atop the profile - what kind of impedance is that - more like a speed bump anyone can readily remove (although yes - the ability to Restore a Deleted Alert Note is available in Change Log/Recent Changes - which essentially makes Alert Note another open-edit battleground - where the 'biggest'/latest schoolyard bully can have the latest word - arrggh)? Perhaps Alert Note should be changed to Alert Discussion - which does only allow appending? (there - four Ideas for the price of one)
