IMPORTANT FEEDBACK: MRN password retrieval disappeared
My calling is a temple and family history consultant. In the past there has been an option to retrieve a lost password using MRN. That option no longer exists, and that is a major problem!!! Please please please bring back the option for retrieving a lost username and password using the membership number.
Allow me to explain why...Our youth sometimes come into the family history center to get names to take to the temple prior to a youth temple baptisms trip. Many of the youth create accounts but forget their passwords and usernames. Before that was not a big deal because the bishop is usually in attendance. He would look up their record number, and that could be used to retrieve their information. Now a phone number and email are the only ways to reset the password. These youth that can't remember their passwords are typically the younger youth that also do not have phones. If they put in a parent's phone number, that parent receives a text about resetting the parent's own account because the number is typically linked to the parent's own church account. The same thing happens with a parent's email address. The youth do sometimes have email addresses, but today it kept bringing up an error message instead of sending the reset password email to them...but even if it had sent the email, many of those youth would not have remembered the password to their email anyway. In some cases, parents were contacted to try to look up the information, but when parents logged into their church account the youth family search accounts were not listed. In the past, youth account access was listed under "children accounts" in the profile of a parents' Churchofjesuschrist.org account. There is still a spot where that is supposedly listed, but the youth Family Search accounts are no longer showing up there. (In other words, with my limited tech expertise, I would suggest that Family Search and Churchofjesuschrist.org are not communicating--at least as far as linking the youth family search accounts to their parents churchofjesuschrist.org accounts so that parents can view their children's usernames and reset their passwords. In short, please consider bringing back the password retrieval by MRN option! It is very important as a consultant trying to help youth print names to take to the temple!
In addition, I also really miss the chat box. It was a huge resource for me. It makes me nervous to make a phone call, and I definitely don't want to schedule a video chat. Besides, when I am helping a ward member, they need the help now--they don't want to wait for a time to be scheduled. I am often helping a youth group, so I can't just make a phone call and ignore everything else going on--but I could type in a chat box and help others while waiting for the reply to be typed back to me. I would love it if the chat box were brought back.
One more time I want to say that this was a major problem tonight--which in the past could've been solved instantly with MRN password retrieval option...and if that wasn't available it still could've been solved immediately with the chat box option. Since neither of those were available, we now have a handful of youth without names to take to the temple this weekend. Please look into bringing those options back--especially the MRN password retrieval option.

I am helping a new member of the church prepare names to take to the temple. She has forgotten her FamilySearch username & password. We have her membership number and tried using that and her birthdate only to find that information must be sent to her mobile phone (not working) or email account. (also irretrievable). I tried to have it sent to my phone but wouldn't do it. How exactly do we help her retrieve her access to Family Search???? Used to be easy with LDS Membership number to get taken care of right at the FamHist Center. I really just want to speak to someone to walk me through this. Please advise. Hello @ Jacque Lawson
Thank you for posting your query regarding access for a sister who is unable to access her FamilySearch account.
A private message will be sent to you giving alternative ways of accessing her account. Look out for a red dot next to you Avatar by the email icon.
Kind Regards

I am also a Ward Family History Consultant, as well as a Service Missionary at a family search center, and have run into the same & similar problems which would be easily solved through the use of the MRN. As a Ward Consultant for many years, I have watched as my access to the MRN has diminished over the last 5 or 6 years, to where I have to get it individually for each person, directly from a member of the bishopric. I understand the increasing need to avoid inappropriate access to member's accounts, and wish there was an alternative that would again enhance our ability to help members with their struggles signing in to Family Search.
